Electric burns and disability.

Forty-nine cases of electric burns with various factors responsible for accidents were studied. The stress was given on the study of disability after electric burns. Different complications of electric burns including morbidity and mortality were noted. Proper training of personnel in handling the electrical goods will reduce the incidence of electrical burns significantly. Better warning signals may also help to reduce the incidence of electric burns. Electric burns constitute one of the crippling accidents as the deep tissue destruction results from such injury. This leads to high incidence

Patterns of orthopedic injuries associated with increasing e-scooter-related trauma: A retrospective observational study with a 4-year evaluation from a tertiary center in Istanbul, Turkey.

The increasing use of electric scooters (e-scooters) has been accompanied by an increase in the number of traumas. Noncompliance with regulations and the effectiveness of legal measures remain subjects of ongoing debate. This study aimed to investigate the demographic characteristics of patients with e-scooter-related orthopedic injuries, temporal distribution of trauma, and patterns of these injuries. We retrospectively evaluated 534 patients with e-scooter-related injuries who were referred to the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology between January 2020 and October 2023. Variables suc

Electric Scooter-Related Deaths in Queensland, Australia.

BACKGROUND: The use of electric scooters (e-scooters) has become an increasingly common means of transport in various parts of the world, as an affordable form of short distance transport. However, there are associated problems related to limitations of pre-existing infrastructure, legislative considerations, and injuries and deaths resulting from their use. There have been numerous studies regarding non-fatal e-scooter injuries, but few studies of fatalities. METHODS: This paper reviews all e-scooter-related deaths in the state of Queensland, Australia, including deaths resulting from e-scoo

Associations between unintentional injuries and deliberate self-harm behaviors of children and adolescents: A school-based cross-sectional survey.

While statistics from hospitals showed that the proportion of self-harm or attempted suicide kept growing among children and adolescents aged 6-17 attending the emergency department, cases of self-harm or attempted suicide dissimulated as accidents received scant attention or were neglected. This study aimed to examine associations between unintentional injuries subtypes and deliberate self-harm behaviors from a school-based large-scale survey. A school-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Anhui, China, between November 2022 to January 2023. A total of 28,013 students (aged 11-17, 5th-

Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Aiton) Hassk. (haramonting) protects against allethrin-exposed pulmo damage in rats: mechanistic interleukins.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Inhaling Allethrin (C19H26O3) may induce oxidative stress in lung cells by causing the formation of free radi-cals. Interleukins (IL) are a group of secreted cytokines or proteins and signaling molecules initially produced as an immune response by leukocytes. Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Aiton) Hassk. (haramonting) contains antioxidants that may prevent lung damage induced by allethrin-containing electric mosquito repellents. In this study, six groups of rats were exposed to allethrin via an electric mosquito repellent, including positive, negative, and comparison control groups and three groups wer

Traumatic injury to the lens.

Concussive trauma to the eye produces characteristic rosette cataracts, dislocation of the lens, and numerous associated ocular injuries. The mechanism of injury is a traumatic shock wave that progresses through the eye, causing insult to both anterior and posterior structures. Appropriate diagnosis and proper management of traumatic cataract is necessary to restore vision and prevent sight-threatening complications. Traumatic cataract may also result from penetrating injury, retained foreign bodies, electric shock, and radiation. Luxation and subluxation of the lens are additional complicatio

The reverse flow ulnar artery island flap: 42 clinical cases.

Based on anatomical and dye injection observations, since 1984 42 cases of hand tissue defects (due to injury or surgery) have been reconstructed using a reverse flow unlar artery forearm island flap. Of the 42 cases, aetiology has included extensive crushing (25 cases), electric saw injuries (7 cases), burn scars (4 cases) and tissue defects following tumour or chronic ulcer resection (6 cases). Only one flap developed necrosis. The survival rate was 97.6%, including 4 cases of distal marginal necrosis. This procedure, therefore, offers a useful alternative in the repair and reconstruction of

Bilateral posterior shoulder dislocation after electrical shock: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Posterior dislocation of the shoulder is a rare and commonly missed injury. Unilateral dislocations occur mostly due to trauma. Bilateral posterior shoulder dislocations are even more rare and result mainly from epileptic seizures. Electrical injury is a rare cause of posterior shoulder dislocation. Injury mechanism in electrical injury is similar to epileptic seizures, where the shoulder is forced to internal rotation, flexion and adduction. PRESENTATION OF CASE: This report presents a case of bilateral posterior shoulder dislocation after electrical shock. We were able to find

Magnetically Responsive Piezoelectric Nanocapacitors Enhance Neural Recovery Following Spinal Cord Injury via Targeted Spinal Magnetic Stimulation.

Precise intracorporeal electrical-magnetic stimulation represents a promising strategy for promoting neural network reconstruction and motor function recovery after spinal cord injury. However, overcoming the inherent limitations of conventional intracorporeal electrical stimulation-such as infection risks from implanted wires and the logistical challenges posed by external power sources-while simultaneously improving the spatial precision of stimulation remains a major unmet need. Here, we introduce a novel therapeutic approach that integrates extracorporeal trans-spinal magnetic stimulation

Early glioma is associated with abnormal electrical events in cortical cultures.

The prodromal stages of some neurological diseases have a distinct electrical profile which can potentially be leveraged for early diagnosis, predicting disease recurrence, monitoring of disease progression, and better understanding of the disease pathology. Gliomas are tumors that originate from glial cells present in the brain and spinal cord. Healthy glial cells support normal neuronal function and play an important role in modulating the regular electrical activity of neurons. However, gliomas can disrupt the normal electrical dynamics of the brain. Though experimental and clinical studies

A case of burn evisceration with full-thickness injury to abdominal wall, bowel, bladder, and three extremities.

BACKGROUND: Severe electrical burns are a rare cause of admission to major burn centers. Incidence of electrical injury causing full-thickness injury to viscera is an increasingly scarce, but severe presentation requiring rapid intervention. We report one of few cases of a patient with full-thickness electrical injury to the abdominal wall, bowel, and bladder. CASE REPORT: The patient, a 22-year-old male, was transferred to our institution from his local hospital after sustaining a suspected electrical burn. On arrival the patient was noted to have severe burn injuries to the lower abdominal

Injuries from nonmotorized scooters treated in emergency departments in the United States, 2005-2020.

BACKGROUND: In the past decade scholarly attention has shifted away from examining injuries from nonmotorized scooters to injuries from electric scooters. This has resulted in a knowledge gap concerning current levels of injury due to the use of nonmotorized scooters. This study presents recent trend data and demographics of patients treated for injuries from nonmotorized scooters in US Emergency Departments (EDs) from 2005 to 2020. METHODS: The study examines data from a probability sample of hospitals with an ED under the auspices of the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS

Repair of electrically injured median nerve with the aid of somatosensory evoked potential.

In repair of the high voltage electrical injuries of peripheral nerve, selection of the proper plane for nerve coaptation after debridement is important since the electrical current is inclined to pass through the nerve trunks due to the lower electric resistance. In this report, we present our experience on use of the somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP) test to assist determination of range of the injured nerve debridement in the electrical injured nerve. From January 1997 to December 2007, 30 patients with the high voltage electrical injury in the wrist, having defect of median nerve, wer
