This paper describes the synthesis of the library of 22 new 3-methyl- and 3-ethyl-3-methyl-2,5-dioxo-pyrrolidin-1-yl-acetamides as potential anticonvulsant agents. The maximal electroshock (MES) and the subcutaneous pentylenetetrazole (scPTZ) seizure models were used for screening all the compounds. In the present study the series of spirosuccinimides with the aromatic ring at the imide nitrogen atom was synthesized. All the compounds were tested for their anticonvulsant activity in the maximal electroshock (MES) and subcutaneous pentylenetetrazole (scPTZ) screens. Manganese deficiency syndromes have been well described in animals and include among a wide variety of metabolic aberrations the heightened susceptibility to convulsions induced by electroshock or drugs. We have measured manganese blood levels in two populations of children: (1) a reference group of 120 ambulatory patients without neurologic disease, (2) 197 patients with convulsive disorder. Blood manganese was found to be age related in infants under 1 year of age.
