We examined effects of mast cell glycosaminoglycans on the establishment of the intestinal nematode, Strongyloides venezuelensis, in the mouse small intestine. When intestinal mastocytosis occurred, surgically implanted adult worms could not invade and establish in the intestinal mucosa. BACKGROUND: Lung contusion (LC) complicated by pneumonia is associated with a higher risk of acute lung injury (ALI) mediated by activation of immune cells and injury to the lung epithelium. Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are essential mediators of cellular crosstalk; however, their role in the development of postinjury ALI remains unclear. We hypothesized that LC complicated by pneumonia increases the pro-inflammatory effect of alveolar sEVs on macrophages and the cytotoxicity of alveolar sEVs to pulmonary epithelial cells, worsening the severity of ALI.

PURPOSE: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a hematological malignancy characterized by the presence of BCR-ABL protein. Imatinib (IMA) is considered as the first line therapy in management of CML which particularly targets the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase protein. However, emergence of resistance to IMA hinders its clinical efficiency. Hence, identifying novel targets for therapeutic approaches in CML treatment is of great importance. Here, we characterize a new subpopulation of highly adherent IMA-resistant CML cells that express stemness and adhesion markers compared to naive counterparts.
