The topical use of vitamin E on scar tissue resulted in a generalized erythema multiforme reaction in two patients. Patch tests with vitamin E oil showed positive local reactions in both.

In this study the HLA antigen frequency was determined in a group of patients with erythema multiforme and in a separate group of patients with recurrent herpes simplex to establish whether either disease had any antigens whose frequency deviated from that of a normal population. Acute ocular complications of erythema multiforme such as infection causing conjunctivitis, suppurative keratitis or endophthalmitis are well recognized and usually easily managed. Late complications include disorders to tear production and drainage, position of lids, abberant or metaplastic lashes and metaplasia of the conjunctiva. Early detection and active management of these abnormalities greatly improves the long term prognosis. The techniques employed and the indications for their use in a recent series of 34 patients are presented.

In twenty patients with erythema multiforme we investigated circulating immune complexes and their deposition in the skin lesions. CIq-binding activity was elevated in ten of twenty patients, and the platelet aggregation titre was high in three of twelve tested sera. Decreased levels of C3 were seen in two and of C4 in one out of eighteen patients. Behçet disease (BD) and erythema multiforme (EM) are rare, immune-mediated, clinically diagnosed conditions that can present with overlapping mucocutaneous findings and symptoms. We report a diagnostically challenging presentation of concurrent BD and EM characterized by oral ulcers, genital lesions, and targetoid bullous acral lesions in a 23-year-old African American man. Erythema multiforme (EM) is a delayed, cell-mediated cutaneous disease with varying clinical manifestations. It is most commonly associated with infections but can also be associated with medications, vaccines, and autoimmune diseases. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used analgesics that have rare associations with EM and pancytopenia.
