Incontinence-associated dermatitis in patients with spinal cord injury.

Evidence-based patient care for those with urinary and faecal incontinence involves routine tasks that are integral to essential patient care. However, over the past few decades, researchers have demonstrated how ritualistic practice in this area has become. There is also a growing range of skin care products that can be used to prevent incontinence-associated dermatitis and for nurses, deciding which ones to use can be problematic Incontinent patients have a 22% higher risk of developing pressure ulcers - when immobile this risk increases to 30% - and the often indiscriminate use of various l

Child neglect and abuse: a global glimpse within the framework of evidence perspective.

AIM: This systematic review was conducted in order to integrate evidence-based knowledge and experience related to child neglect and abuse into the nursing literature. BACKGROUND: The negative and intense effects of neglect and abuse on an individual can last into adulthood. Nurses who are in close contact with such cases have an important role to play in detecting child neglect and abuse and supporting the families involved. When nurses fulfil this role, it is important that evidence-based information and interventions are known to ensure that the process is a healthy one. DATA SOURCES: Med

Effectiveness of interprofessional education for medical and nursing professionals and students on interprofessional educational outcomes: A systematic review.

AIM AND BACKGROUND: Patient safety is a global health priority as unsafe care is a principal cause of death and disability. Ineffective interprofessional communication and collaboration among nursing and medical professionals and students contribute to unsafe practices. Interprofessional education provides opportunities to strengthen nurse-physician collaboration and enhance patient care. However, there is inconclusive evidence regarding interprofessional education effectiveness. This review aims to systematically evaluate interprofessional education effectiveness for nursing and medical profe

Advocacy in Action: Advancing State Policy Change to Strengthen School Nurse Salaries in New Mexico.

School nurses are vital advocates for student health, yet the New Mexico workforce has long faced staffing shortages and significant pay inequities. This article describes a successful policy advocacy campaign by the New Mexico School Nurses Association to achieve salary parity. By collecting and leveraging data, including statewide surveys and salary schedule audits, advocates demonstrated that school nurse compensation failed to match the state-mandated three-tiered pay scale guaranteed to teachers. This effort culminated in the passage of House Bill 195 in 2025, standardizing state-wide sch

Review of Evidence-Based Strategies to Treat Alcohol Use Disorder.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a serious, prevalent disorder that affects millions of people. There are numerous evidence-based treatments and strategies to treat AUD, but they are under-utilized for a variety of reasons, including provider stigma, lack of knowledge, lack of professional support, shortage of willing providers, and patient barriers. Disulfiram, naltrexone, and acamprosate are approved but underused medications for the treatment of AUD. Nonpharmacological strategies and treatments include the use of motivational interviewing when talking to patients about their alcohol use, peer

Research Priorities in Correctional Nursing Practice: Results of a Three-Round Delphi Study.

Correctional nursing has been recognized as a specialty since 1985, but research to describe and support nursing practice in the criminal justice system has been sparse. The development of a research agenda can stimulate the research necessary to provide an evidence base for specialty practice development. A three-round Delphi study was undertaken to elicit a prioritized list of research topics to guide future research efforts for meaningful results. Six predominant themes emerged from an analysis of top research questions generated by a panel of 18 correctional nursing experts. Research prior

Perspectives of nursing doctoral students on the impact of doctoral education on their professional and career development: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Doctoral education enhances nurses' evidence-based decision-making, care quality, and professional visibility, yet significant global disparities in program structure and persistent challenges faced by students and graduates limit its full potential. This study aims to explore the experiences of nurses enrolled in doctoral education, particularly those who are actively working as nurses in the healthcare setting, and how this education contributes to their professional development and supports their future career goals. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive study using individual in-

Nurse-Led Algorithm-Based Early Mobilization Protocol for Reducing Post-Intensive Care Syndrome in Intensive Care Unit Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) is a significant challenge for cardiac surgery survivors. While early mobilization (EM) is recommended, there is a lack of evidence regarding the effectiveness and safety of nurse-led, algorithm-based protocols in cardiovascular intensive care units (ICUs). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of a nurse-led algorithm-based EM protocol on PICS scores, psychological distress (anxiety and depression), sleep quality, and nursing satisfaction in patients following cardiac surgery. METHODS: A randomized controlled pretest-posttest study was conducted

Electronic health literacy and related factors among nursing students: a latent profile analysis.

BACKGROUND: In the context of rapid information technology development and widespread internet-based healthcare, electronic health literacy (eHL) is essential for health promotion and disease prevention. As prospective nurses, nursing students require sufficient eHL to retrieve, evaluate, and apply digital health information in clinical practice and health education. However, evidence regarding the heterogeneity and influencing factors of eHL among nursing interns in China remains limited. METHODS: This multicenter cross-sectional study recruited 1,191 nursing interns from six hospitals in An
