TEN mimics: Classification and practical approach to toxic epidermal necrolysis-like dermatoses.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is an acute life-threatening dermatologic emergency. However, many dermatoses can present with a TEN-like eruption. Those "TEN-mimics" are a true diagnostic challenge and an alarming differential diagnosis to such a serious condition. Herein, we will expose and classify the landscape of TEN-mimics. Also, the key differentiating clinical and/or laboratory points will be highlighted to help an accurate diagnosis of either a TEN or a TEN-like presentation.

A case series of hydroxychloroquine exacerbating the dermatomyositis rash.

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is an antimalarial agent that is commonly used in the management of rheumatic skin disease. Few reports exist documenting exacerbation of dermatomyositis (DM) related to HCQ. Herein, we describe three adult patients with worsening DM cutaneous disease after starting HCQ and resolution or improvement with cessation. The time to exacerbation ranged from two weeks to nine months after the initiation of HCQ 400mg/day. Two of the three patients had antibodies to transcription intermediary factor 1γ (TIF1γ) and the other had antibodies to anti-nuclear matrix protein 2 (NXP2)

A Case Series of Patients With Eczematous Eruptions Following IL-17 Inhibitor Treatment for Psoriasis Vulgaris.

Psoriasis vulgaris and eczema are characterized by an imbalance in the Th1 and Th2 immune response and distinct cytokine profiles, where Th1 is more prominent in psoriasis and Th2 is more prominent in eczema. A common treatment for psoriasis is anti-IL-17 therapy, in which inhibition of IL-17 cytokines and the Th1/Th17 immune response may cause a paradoxical shift favoring the Th2 immune response and an eczematous phenotype. Our case series presents three patients who developed a cutaneous eczematous eruption 8-12 weeks following treatment of psoriasis with an IL-17 inhibitor (secukinumab, ixe

Clinical manifestations of human Mpox infection: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Little is known about the ongoing monkeypox (mpox) outbreak, and the clinical features of mpox in patients worldwide have not been rigorously analysed. Thus, we aimed to investigate the clinical features associated with mpox infection and understand the pathophysiology and characteristics of the disease. For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews for articles published till 16 September 2022. We used a random effects model to calculate the pooled prevalence and 95% confidence interval

Staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome.

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is a severe acute disease characterized by high fever, hypotension, rash, multiple organ dysfunction and desquamation during convalescence. TSS is caused by toxin-producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. TSS remains a rare but severe disease. Early diagnosis is important because specific treatments with antitoxin effects must be started as soon as possible. This manuscript presents a set of images that illustrate the main findings in the peripheral blood film of a patient with TSS.

An intertriginous hyperpigmented macular eruption.

A 23-year-old woman presented with a hyperpigmented intertriginous eruption unresponsive to topical steroids and to topical and systemic antifungals. [Virus-induced exanthems in returning travellers].

Dermatological diseases are among the most common travel-associated diseases. In particular, viral infections not only with tropical and subtropical pathogens, but also with viruses common in Germany, which are often accompanied by skin rashes and general symptoms, are of great importance. In addition to an accurate travel history and possible risk exposures, epidemiological information on country-specific risks in combination with molecular and serological analyses is helpful in making the correct diagnosis. This article provides an overview of important virus-induced exanthems in returned tr
