Clinical experience with reamed locked nails for close and open comminuted tibial diaphyseal fractures: a review of 50 consecutive cases.

We present the results of our experience in treating comminuted tibial shaft fractures with reamed interlocking intramedullary nail from September 1993 to December 1995. In this retrospective study, there were fifty patients with an average follow-up of 14.3 months (range six to twenty-eight months). Ninety-eight percent of the fractures were due to motor-vehicle accident with majority of the patients being motorcyclist (96%). Thirty-eight fractures were closed and twelve were open (Gustilo grade I--8; grade II--4); 44% of them had additional fractures or other injuries. According to Winquist-

A feasibility study of a novel closed flowing vacuum-assisted technique (CFVAT) in managing fracture-related infection with implant retention.

OBJECTIVE: The Closed Flowing Vacuum-Assisted Technique (CFVAT) is an innovative approach achieving continuous irrigation within a sealed wound environment, which enables active fluid circulation and establishes an efficient flowing-drainage mode under negative pressure. This study aims to conduct the first evaluation comparing the clinical outcomes of CFVAT versus the traditional Vacuum Sealing Drainage (VSD) technique in the management of early (≤ 6 weeks) fracture-related infection (FRI) involving internal fixation and classified as Cierny-Mader type II. METHODS: A retrospective study was

Closed Rupture of the Extensor Tendon of the Ring and Little Fingers Following Plate Fixation for Distal Ulna Fracture: A Case Report.

Extensor tendon rupture following plate fixation for distal ulna fractures is extremely rare. We present a case of delayed closed rupture of the extensor tendons of the ring and little fingers following distal ulna plate fixation. A 71-year-old woman developed progressive swelling and loss of active extension of the ring and little fingers eight years after surgery for distal radius and ulna fractures. Computed tomography demonstrated dorsal penetration of the most distal ulnar screw. Surgical exploration confirmed rupture of the extensor digitorum communis tendons to the ring and little finge

[Research progress on correction methods of rotational deformity in closed reduction and intramedullary nail internal fixation of femoral shaft fracture].

Femoral shaft fracture (FSF) is a common fracture in orthopedic practice. Closed reduction and intramedullary nailing, due to their minimally invasive nature and ability to promote fracture healing, have become the mainstream treatment for FSF. However, accurately assessing and correcting rotational deformities during surgery remains a major challenge for this technique. This article reviews the research progress on the assessment and correction of rotational deformities in closed reduction and intramedullary nailing of FSF. Current assessment methods involve the wire-drawing method, femoral n

A novel technology integrating robotics and 3D printing for closed reduction of tibia shaft fracture with MIPPO:A proof-of-concept study.

Less invasive fixation techniques, such as intramedullary nailing (IMN) and minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO), are now the preferred choices for treating tibia shaft fractures (TSFs). However, malreduction and radiation exposure are the main deficiencies associated with less invasive fixation techniques, especially when assessing rotation around the shaft axis intra-operatively. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility and reduction accuracy of an innovative technology that integrates robotics and 3D printing for achieving anatomical reduction of

The outcome of Radial Neck Fracture Treated with Closed/ Open Reduction and Retrograde Kirschner Wires Fixation in the Paediatric Age Group.

Background Radial neck fractures in children are rare injuries, representing 1 to 5% of all elbow pediatric fractures. Most of them are non-displaced or slightly displaced and treated conservatively. Severely displaced or angulated radial neck fractures (Judet type III and IV fractures or O'Brien type III radial neck fractures) requires surgical treatment. Objective To study the clinical and radiological outcomes of fractures following closed or open reduction and percutaneous intramedullary stabilization of the displaced radial neck fracture in children. Method There were 24 children with dis

Isolated, Closed Superficial Femoral Artery Rupture without Fracture Following Blunt Trauma; A Case Report and Literature Review.

Injury to the femoral artery usually occurs either in open penetrating injuries or in association with fractures, but is unlikely with closed blunt trauma without fracture. We reported a 24-year-old female with a right-sided closed complete rupture of the superficial femoral artery without any bone injury and contralateral femoral shaft fracture following riding a bike and hitting by a tractor over both lower limbs. The right thigh and knee were swollen and tender with absent distal pulses without any knee instability. The left lower limb was shorter with crepitus and abnormal movement in the
