Biosurveillance capability requirements for the global health security agenda: lessons from the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.

The biosurveillance capabilities needed to rapidly detect and characterize emerging biological threats are an essential part of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA). The analyses of the global public health system's functioning during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic suggest that while capacities such as those identified in the GHSA are essential building blocks, the global biosurveillance system must possess 3 critical capabilities: (1) the ability to detect outbreaks and determine whether they are of significant global concern, (2) the ability to describe the epidemiologic characteristics of the p…

Impact of global public health days on online health-information-seeking behavior related to substance use: An analysis of five-year data.

The United Nations Organizations observe various global public health days (GPHDs) (also known as world days) throughout the year. We aimed to assess the impact of GPSDs on online health information-seeking behavior related to substance use in the Indian context. We used the Google Trends data for this study using standard guidelines. We conducted a topic search for the query "Substance abuse" to capture online information-seeking behavior (OHISB) for substance use disorder-related searches. The data were analyzed using the Joinpoint Regression software. Joinpoint regression model analysis was

Global and regional final point-of-drinking water prevalence of Vibrio pathogens: a systematic analysis with socioeconomic, global health security, and WASH indices-guided meta-regressions.

The final point-of-drinking water (FPODW) exposure to Vibrio and waterborne pathogens remains a misaim surveillance target. Therefore, the current study purposed to estimate the global and regional prevalence of Vibrio pathogens in FPODW. Vibrio-FPODW data derived from integrated databases per PRISMA protocol were fitted to a random-intercept-logistic mixed-effects and meta-regression models. The global FPODW Vibrio prevalence was 5.13% (95%CI: 2.24-11.30) with 7.76% (6.84-8.78) cross-validated value. Vibrio prevalence in different FPODW varied with the highest in unclassified (13.98%, 3.98-38

The International Alliance on Brain Health (IABH): Bridging global efforts toward integrated brain and mental health plans and the promotion of local implementations.

The convergence of neurological, psychiatric, neurodevelopmental, and public health approaches to brain health is reshaping global strategies for prevention, care, and policy. However, major gaps remain in the integration and implementation of brain and mental health frameworks across healthcare systems and regions. This paper describes the foundation and early development of the International Alliance on Brain Health (IABH), established in Switzerland in 2025 to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, reciprocal innovation, and implementation-oriented exchange between the global North and gl

Modeling the formation of a worldwide health network fighting TBC: Key drivers in policy, management and governance in developing countries and global health institutions.

We present an original study on the usage of a model of network formation to analyze the X (formerly Twitter) friendship network relative to the health organizations that are fighting a specific infectious disease such as Tuberculosis (TBC) as well as how the network evolves over time. Using this model, that mixes information from social media and the underlying reconstructed economic network of their actors, together with disease incidence information, we can then study how the TBC global health network (GHNs) works. Specifically, we investigate the key drivers of this global network partners…

Difficulty with mobility among the aged in Ghana: Evidence from Wave 2 of the World Health Organization's Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health.

BACKGROUND: Globally, the population is rapidly ageing, stemming from a recent decline in mortality, and an increase in life expectancy. About 727 million people globally were aged ≥65 in 2020, and 1 in 6 people will be ≥65 years by 2050. About 7% of Ghana's population was over 60 years in 2010, and projected to be 12% by 2050. However, the aged are confronted with degenerative conditions that translate into difficulty with mobility. The study was conducted to investigate the difficulty with mobility among the aged in Ghana. METHODS: The study utilised a cross-sectional dataset of the 2014/20

Prediction of potential public health risk of the recent multicountry monkeypox outbreak: An update after the end declaration of global public health emergency.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: A double-stranded DNA virus called monkeypox virus (MPV) belonging to the Poxviridae family and Orthopoxvirus genus causes monkeypox (mpox) infection. This virus used to infect only Central, East, and West Africa. However, it has spread to an extent outside Africa recently. The range of MPV outbreaks was so high that on July 23, 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). About a year later, the WHO notified the end of a global public health emergency for mpox on May 11, 2023. Here, we aimed to assess th
