Vegetating erosive cutaneous lesions and pyogenic granuloma in the course of mucous membrane pemphigoid: a case report and review of literature.

Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a group of chronic autoimmune sub-epithelial blistering disorders, which mostly affect the oral mucosa and the conjunctiva. MMP is very diverse in terms of both the clinical and immunological features (IgG and IgA autoantibodies may react with different antigens). MMP can be induced by infections and medication, including ophthalmologic medication, which may lead to the development of eye lesions. In contrast, a vegetating variant of MMP is extremely rare. Here, we report an MMP case that demonstrated unusual clinical features, that is, pyogenic granulomas o

Lobular capillary hemangioma: the underlying lesion of pyogenic granuloma. A study of 73 cases from the oral and nasal mucous membranes.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) has a diagnostic, lobular arrangement of capillaries at its base. The lobules consist of discrete clusters of endothelial cells, and the lumina vary from indistinct to prominent. The superficial portions of the lesion may undergo secondary, nonspecific changes including stromal edema, capillary dilation, inflammation, and a granulation tissue reaction. PG has often been equated with these inflammatory changes but objective diagnostic criteria have not been presented. To avoid confusion and focus on the intrinsic nature of PG we suggest the accurate, descriptive term, lo

Two pediatric cases of pyogenic granuloma treated with imiquimod 5% cream: combined clinical and dermatoscopic evaluation and review of the literature.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG), also referred to as lobular capillary hemangioma, is a common, benign vascular proliferation of skin and/or mucous membranes, occurring most frequently in children and young people. First line therapy of PG consists of surgical excision. Alternative treatments such as curettage, cauterization, laser therapy and cryotherapy may require multiple sessions, pose unwanted complications and have the highest rate of recurrence. Imiquimod (IQ) 5% cream is a synthetic imidazoquinolin heterocyclic amine that enhances, through cytokine induction, both the innate and acquired immu

Oral pyogenic granuloma--a review of 215 cases in a South Indian Teaching Hospital, Karnataka, over a period of 20 years.

INTRODUCTION: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a solitary, benign vascular growth. The precise cause for the development of pyogenic granuloma is unknown. It is believed, however, to be an exuberant tissue response to local irritation or trauma. Up to date, few studies have been carried out among Asians, particularly on the Indian subcontinent. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Biopsy services were researched from 1989 to 2009. Two hundred-fifteen histologically confirmed PGs were retrieved and retrospectively analyzed for incidence, age, gender, site distribution, clinical presentation and histopathology. Th

An innovative and less invasive management of recurrent pyogenic granuloma in the esthetic zone: A case report with 18-month follow-up.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a nonneoplastic, tumor-like growth commonly seen in the oral mucosa or skin. Although nonpathological, its existence might lead to complications such as secondary infections or diastema formation. Hence, surgical removal of the growth seems mandatory. Histopathologic and radiographic evaluation is essential for accurate diagnosis and to rule out malignancy. A 28-year-old systemically healthy female patient reported with a swelling which involved the interdental space of maxillary left central and lateral incisors. The lesion initially developed as a "pimple-like" swe

Periungual pyogenic granulomas after ravulizumab therapy in a child with acute myelomonocytic leukemia treated with hematopoietic stem cell transplant.

Development of periungual pyogenic granulomas (pPGs) has been associated with several systemic treatments, including retinoids, taxanes, epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors, and vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors. We present the case of an 8-year-old girl with a personal history of acute myelomonocytic leukemia treated with a haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplant who developed pPGs 2 months after starting ravulizumab. Ravulizumab is a monoclonal antibody directed against C5 protein. No previous reports of pPGs development have been described with ravulizumab.

Comparison of the Efficacy of Combined Silver Nitrate Coagulation and Shave Excision With Surgical Excision and Linear Closure in the Treatment of Pyogenic Granuloma.

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a common benign vascular neoplasia. Optimal treatment should have an aesthetically pleasant scar and a low recurrence rate. No treatment method that is fully effective in solving these has been demonstrated. Silver nitrate cauterization is another method for the management of PG lesions. OBJECTIVE: The effects of silver nitrate on the treatment of PG have not been sufficiently investigated and should be investigated with objective data and a controlled study. METHODS: The prospective clinical trial was designed to compare silver nitrate cauterization wi

Topical β-Blocker as a Novel Treatment Option for Periungual Pyogenic Granuloma: A Retrospective Study of Lesion Size Reduction and Pain Improvement.

Periungual pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign reactive vascular lesion commonly associated with trauma and/or drug exposure, including anticancer therapies such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors and other targeted agents. These lesions often cause pain, bleeding, and functional impairment, and may lead to interruption or dose reduction of relevant anticancer treatment. However, there remains a need for effective and noninvasive treatment options that can be easily administered in clinical practice. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and safety of topic

D2-40 negative pyogenic granuloma-like Kaposi's sarcoma: Diagnostic features and histogenetic hypothesis of an uncommon skin tumor in HIV-negative patients.

Pyogenic granuloma-like Kaposi's sarcoma (PGLKS) is a recently described skin tumor showing features both of pyogenic granuloma (PG) and Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). The differential diagnosis is often challenging. We reviewed a series of 50 PG and 23 Ks located on distal extremities with the aid of an immunohistochemical panel comprising CD34, CD31, FVIII, SMA, D2-40, HHV8. After revision, 6/50 PG lesions previously diagnosed as PG, showed positive immunostaining for LNA1-HHV8 and focal positivity for CD31 and FVIII in the endothelial cells of the proliferating vessels, with some SMA positive peric

Halo Phenomenon in Lobular Capillary Hemangioma: A Case Report of a Pyogenic Granuloma With Surrounding Cutaneous Hypopigmentation and Review of Tumors With Halo Phenomenon.

A halo phenomenon describes a skin neoplasm that is surrounded by a hypopigmented or white halo. Halo lesions have been observed in association with an epithelial neoplasm (seborrheic keratosis), a fibrous lesion (surgical scar), a keratinocyte malignancy (basal cell carcinoma), melanocytic neoplasms, and vascular lesions. Benign lesions (café au lait macules and nevi) and malignant tumors (primary and metastatic melanoma) are melanocytic neoplasms that have developed perilesional halos. Halo nevi are a commonly occurring manifestation of a halo phenomenon; however, perilesional hypopigmented

Rare cause of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding due to pyogenic granuloma in the ileum detected by capsule endoscopy and treated with double balloon endoscopy.

Pyogenic granuloma is a lobular capillary hemangioma that occurs mostly on the skin, and occasionally on the mucosal surface of the oral cavity, but very rarely in the gastrointestinal tract. We report the case of a 63-year-old woman who suffered from palpitations, and iron deficiency anemia for 5 years. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy could not reveal significant bleeding focus. She had not received medical treatment except for oral iron. Capsule endoscopy revealed a bleeding focus in the small intestine. Afterwards, we carried out double balloon endoscopy to treat the lesion. We f

Expression of Tie-2, angiopoietin-1, angiopoietin-2, ephrinB2 and EphB4 in pyogenic granuloma of human gingiva implicates their roles in inflammatory angiogenesis.

Tie-2, angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1), angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2), ephrin-B2 and Eph-B4 are all important vascular morphogenesis factors which exhibit their functions in angiogenesis and blood vessel remodeling in embryonic stage. However, their roles in post-natal inflammatory angiogenesis are still unclear. Pyogenic granuloma is a benign inflammatory lesion that mostly occurs on the gingiva of females with high levels of steroid hormones. Prominent capillary growth in hyperplastic granulation tissue is characteristic histopathologically in pyogenic granuloma. The purpose of this study was to detect and
