Release of nickel into triamcinolone acetonide suspensions stored in the reservoir of a Dermo-Jet was demonstrated by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. Increased urinary nickel excretion was found for three days following intradermal injections (with the Dermo-Jet) of triamcinolone acetonide in patients suffering from alopecia areata. The dimethylglyoxime test showed that the internal rod of the reservoir as well as metallic internal parts of the nozzle leached appreciable amounts of nickel, even before any clinical use.

A cat showing seasonal allergic symptoms of rhinitis was examined for reactivities to Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica, CJ) pollen allergen by intradermal skin test (IDST), Prausnitz-Kustner (P-K) test, and lymphocyte blastogenic response. The 'dapsone syndrome' developed in a 44-year-old woman who was treated for pyoderma gangrenosum with 100 mg/day dapsone for about 5 weeks. Five hundred twenty-five atopic patients were skin tested over a 12-mo period to several crude allergens with a puncture skin-testing technique utilizing a bifurcated needle originally developed for smallpox immunization. We diagnosed a presumably IgE-mediated allergic hypersensitivity reaction comprising generalized erythema and bronchospasm 4 h after the first-time application of transdermal fentanyl. A "second generation" antibody to a highly purified lymphocyte product was raised in a goat against material eluted from a rabbit anti-guinea pig lymphokine immunoadsorbent column. Lingual tuberculosis presenting as macroglossia in a 20-year-old woman has been reported. The histopathologic picture was similar to lupus vulgaris and the intradermal tuberculin test showed a strongly positive vesiculobullous reaction after forty-eight hours. No active internal focus of tubercular infection could be detected. The patient responded well to antituberculous chemotherapy. The relative lack of symptoms suggest that the enlargement had been a slow process resulting from the lodging of bacilli in the tongue.

In the Biskra area which is a historical focus of cutaneous leishmaniasis, the authors have carried out a systematic survey of the disease among the school age population (age interval: 6-15 years of age). The incidence of the disease found through the detection of suspect cutaneous leishmaniasis scars rose to 32.4%. The incidence brought about by intradermal skin-testing (to Leishmanin) was 76.9%. The comparative value of the two systematic survey methods is discussed with reference to the situation of other endemic foci.

A study of sensitivity of various laboratory animals (guinea pigs, albino mice, Cricetus auratus W., albino rats and chick embryos) demonstrated that they all, excluding the latter, reacted by specific edema in response to the administration of the exotoxin produced by the vaccine strain CTI-1. A quantitative characteristics of the activity of the preparation for albino mice was presented and a method permitting to determine the activity of the anthrax exotoxin in intradermal test on guinea pigs with a greater precision than the accepted one was elaborated.
