Arytenoidectomy is currently the most reliable method of treating patients with bilateral vocal cord paralysis. Although both endoscopic and external approaches have been described, the endoscopic laser technique is more desirable because it requires no incision and allows for the immediate assessment of airway size. 130 eyes with primary angle-closure glaucoma were performed iridotomy successfully with Nd: YAG laser. The iris perforations remained open in follow-ups of 1 week to 8 months, and pupil block was relieved. The technique involved was described. The common complications included slight local opacity in the peripheral cornea, mild iris hemorrhage, and postoperative hypertensive response in IOP, all of which did not affect the visual acuity.

A subglottiscope for use in adult men and women has been developed for microlaryngeal laser operations in the subglottic region of the larynx. The tip has been designed to facilitate exposure of the subglottis and upper trachea in both short-necked and long-necked individuals. Perforation of the footplate in otosclerosis can be performed accurately, when the large and high energetic CO2 laser focus is reduced to 0.5 mm in diameter by an aluminium diaphragm. The operation was performed on three dogs. BAEPs were evoked by bone-conducted acoustic stimuli. Hearing threshold was unchanged immediately after operation as well as after 2 and 6 weeks postoperatively. The new method has still to be performed in man.

Four patients presented with linear ulcers (hymenal fissures) that had not responded to conventional local therapy or oral antibiotics. The use of the neodymium:YAG(Nd:YAG) laser in urology in still in its infancy. To date, the most widely published application of this laser is in the treatment of bladder carcinoma. We have utilized the Nd:YAG laser in 23 treatments for superficial bladder tumors. The laser has both advantages and shortcomings, which are thoroughly addressed. The laser has become a significant addition to the laryngologist's surgical armamentarium. A mail survey was undertaken to place difficulties with the use of the laser in perspective.
