PURPOSE: Persistent cloaca is a complex malformation that remains a difficult reconstructive challenge, and data on long-term outcome are scarce. Gynecological abnormalities are common with cloaca but may remain asymptomatic until puberty or adult life. We evaluate long-term gynecological sequelae in these patients with persistent cloaca.

A case of ovarian hydatosis without other evidence of hydatid disease elsewhere in the body is reported. This 35 years old para eight abortus two Ethiopian mother was admitted to the Gynecology and Obstetrics department of Tikur Anbessa teaching hospital with the diagnosis of ovarian tumor. A uniclocular ovarian cyst was removed at laparotomy which was diagnosed to be hydatid cyst of the ovary on histopathological examination. Epidemiological features, clinical presentation and therapeutic options of this rare cause of adnexal enlargement are discussed.

Cortisol resistance in man has been diagnosed only in a few cases and families sofar. Since the first description in 1976 only about 30 patients and mostly asymptomatic family members with cortisol resistance have been described. Six epileptic women, showing a clear increase in seizure frequency in the perimenstrual period, were studied during three consecutive menstrual cycles. At each control seizure occurrence, EEG recordings, endocrine profile and antiepileptic drug plasma levels were evaluated. The only pathological finding was the progesterone deficiency with a relative hyperestrogenism during the late luteal phase. Our data agree with other reports suggesting that catamenial epilepsy may result from a sex hormone disregulation.

Serum dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) was measured in 32 infertility patients who were found to be ovulatory, in 37 women with oligomenorrhea, and in 52 hirsute patients under basal conditions. It was also measured in conjunction with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation and dexamethasone suppression in 10 of the hirsute women.
