Questions of illness experience and identity are discussed, based on the analysis of a story told by the breast-cancer activist Audre Lorde. Displacing Parsons' conceptualization of illness as a sick role, I understand the ill person as a narrative subject, defined by discursive possibilities. Three discourses of illness are proposed: the medical institutional discourse, the discourse of illness experience, and the pink-ribbon discourse. Each has its preferred narratives. PURPOSE: This study explored the childhood experiences of perpetrators of child sexual abuse.
DESIGN AND METHODS: A blend of narrative inquiry and phenomenology was employed. Interviews were conducted with 23 community-dwelling perpetrators (21 males, 2 females). The education of participants ranged from GED to PhD.
FINDINGS: There were four types of narratives: There Was No Love; Love Left; Love Was Conflated With Sex; and a Pretty Good Childhood. Chronic sorrow for a painful childhood was evident in most participants.

This is my memoir as a sick child, hospitalized in the Pediatric ward of a large hospital, many years ago. The story tells about my friendship with another young patient, Jum'ah, a Bedouin child who suffered from Congenital Cyanotic Heart Disease, to whom the pediatric ward was Home. My Childish understanding of Jum'ah's loneliness, anxiety and struggle to be loved and belonged are described in this narrative. I describe how this experience still has an influence on my adult professional and personal concepts.

This paper tells the story of events that led up to a septoplasty and the consequences that followed it. The patient is a medical ethicist. After scratching the inside of a nostril in 1976, he suffered with occasional bleeding and irritation for almost two decades. He tried topical treatment. As this failed, he sought help from an ENT specialist. The paper relates the conduct of the patient and others (friends in the medical field, the patient's spouse, nurses and anesthesiologists) vis-à-vis informed consent.

To advance the science of positive emotional expressions, we test how 22 positive emotions are spontaneously displayed on the face, using the participant-negotiated episodic recall method. Respondents (n = 163) narrated emotional events from their lives, and we extracted facial behaviours that reflected peak expressivity (35 410 facial actions). Network models were applied to probe whether specific positive emotions would be conditionally associated with particular facial behaviours. OBJECTIVES: Implementing a new electronic health record (EHR) system in high-pressure, high-stakes environments, such as documenting during pediatric and neonatal cardiac and respiratory arrest scenarios, can be challenging for health care staff. Poorly designed tools or technology that don't align with existing workflows may lead to incomplete or inaccurate documentation. Lower adoption rates and continued reliance on paper forms for code documentation can result in gaps in patient data within the EHR, requiring the transcription of critical information after the event.

OBJECTIVE: To explore faculty insights about the undergraduate medical students' participation in the curriculum committees.
METHODOLOGY: An exploratory approach to qualitative study design was adopted. Four focus group discussions were conducted in two medical and two dental colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, based on a piloted and validated guide, over a period of six months July 2021-January 2022.
