Chondrosarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor exhibiting cartilaginous differentiation. It is a relatively common primary malignant bone tumor, but its occurrence in the jaws is rare, particularly in the mandible. BACKGROUND: Thymoma is the most common anterior mediastinal neoplasm in adults and often requires surgical resection for curative treatment. Traditional approaches, including open surgery and multiportal thoracoscopic techniques, are associated with significant morbidity. The uniportal subxiphoid approach offers a minimally invasive, patient-friendly alternative, with potential benefits in operative efficiency and post-operative recovery. OBJECTIVES: To calculate the rate of detection for mediastinal lymph nodes and to set up a criteria for the diagnosis of metastatic mediastinal lymph nodes in lung neoplasm by means of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS).

MALT lymphomas of the orbit are rare orbital tumors; the differential diagnosis needs to exclude inflammatory pseudotumors of the orbit, but also benign lymphoproliferations, pseudolymphomas, and other orbital neoplasms. After histological confirmation of the diagnosis staging is necessary, and - as long as the disease is localized exclusively in the orbit - radiation therapy should be started. The clinical picture of MALT lymphoma and its differential diagnosis and treatment are discussed with reference to an actual case.

The first case report is an undifferentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the ear. This patient complained with pain and discharging ear, which led us to practice a TC followed by an attico-antrotomy. The pathologist could detect in the removed tissue the neoplasm in its early evolutive stages. In the other case the earache and the suppuration suggested at first a carcinoma. In spite of the TAC and MR exams the surgery that followed was not confirmative of the tumor presence.

The authors study a group of 61 patients treated for floor of the mouth neoplasms at the Istituto di Oncologia di Torino. They confirm a high incidence of deaths in the first 2 years after treatment in patients T greater than 2 N+, and better survival in patients with stage I-II tumours. The survival does not tend to fall between 5 and 10 years after treatment.

Primary melanoma of the gastrointestinal tract is a rare, highly malignant neoplasm that is associated with an unfavorable long-term prognosis. Animal studies are needed to further characterize this tumor and to develop new and more effective protocols. A spontaneous canine intestinal melanoma is described which, because of its local aggressive behavior and advanced stage, was not treatable with conventional strategies, thus being a potential candidate for investigational trials.

Preoperative diagnosis of tubal carcinoma is difficult and a diagnosis cannot usually be established until the time of operation. However, since prognosis is strictly related to the stage of the neoplasm, it is very important to be familiar with the clinical and imaging characteristics of primary fallopian tube carcinoma in order to make an early and accurate diagnosis. This report presents the ultrasonographic features of three cases of fallopian tube carcinoma and reviews the literature on the subject.

Metastases to the skin from internal malignant neoplasms are uncommon and often preterminal event. Cutaneous metastases from an adrenal cortical carcinoma have rarely been reported even in the advanced stages of the disease. A patient was initially seen with a small cutaneous lesion on the cheek and was found to have a large adrenal cortical tumor. Histologic comparison proved that the cutaneous lesion was a metastase from an adrenal cortical carcinoma.

Endoscopic inspection of the endocervical canal (tracheloscopy) appears to be a rapid, reliable diagnostic technique to confirm the presence of endometrial neoplasms involving the endocervix found at fractional curettage. A series is presented in which 68% of patients with "positive" endocervical curettage were found to have no involvement of the endocervix by tracheloscopy and biopsy, which was confirmed by subsequent hysterectomy. The technique is discussed, and the use of this procedure in the staging of endometrial malignancies is recommended.
