OBJECTIVE: The curative potential of various bronchoscopic treatments such as Nd:YAG laser, photodynamic therapy, and brachytherapy for the treatment of intraluminal tumor has been reported previously. Bronchoscopic treatment can be used to treat small intraluminal tumor with curative intent, such as in patients with roentgenologically occult squamous cell cancer. In a retrospective study, we showed that bronchoscopic treatment provided excellent local control with surgical proof of cure in 6 of 11 patients with intraluminal typical bronchial carcinoid.

This research investigates the type of and extent to which additional problematic experiences and behaviors are associated with a history of both substance misuse and childhood sexual abuse. In a recent study of women undergraduate students, 30 years and older, 15 disclosed a history of problematic alcohol and/or drug use. Of these, 10 had experienced sexual trauma as children; five had not. This report compares these two subsamples with respect to problematic experiences and behavior. Implications for counseling and research are discussed.

UNLABELLED: It has been assumed that the stereotyped hand movements in Rett syndrome are symmetrical, midline and that they prevent purposeful use of the hands. Their relationship with respiration has not been previously explored.

We describe a training programme designed to instruct radiographers how to perform the double contrast barium enema (DCBE). The programme was assessed by comparing the first 50 unsupervised examinations with studies performed by senior registrars in radiology. Comparison was made by marking each study blind in terms of barium coating, colonic distension and visualisation of the colon in double contrast. Personality traits were assessed by means of the Karolinska Scale of Personality (KSP) and the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) in 45 genuine stress incontinent women and compared with a reference group of continent women in order to investigate the possible impact of this chronic condition on the personality.
