Wastewater surveillance is an economical approach to track community level pathogen prevalence and outbreak monitoring. Monitoring pathogens of public health concern in military installation wastewater can help mitigation efforts to protect service members. Research conducted in my group in the period 2006-2009 has led to a better understanding of the oncogenic mechanisms of the FIP1L1-PDGFRA and NUP214-ABL1 oncogenes. Insights into these mechanisms may help us to design novel strategies to treat leukemia.
