Genetic risk factors for diabetic retinopathy in the Greek population: a review of key gene polymorphisms.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus and a leading cause of visual impairment among adults worldwide. While hyperglycemia and metabolic dysregulation are recognized contributors to DR pathogenesis, increasing attention has been directed toward the role of genetic factors. This review evaluates the association between specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and DR susceptibility within the Greek population, an underrepresented group in global genomic studies. The review synthesizes findings from population-specific research

Associations between kisspeptin hormone level and its genetic polymorphisms with polycystic ovary syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is among the most common endocrine and metabolic disorders. Kisspeptin, a neuropeptide, which has been implicated in enhancing hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis activity, might play a role in the pathogenesis of PCOS. However, previous studies have had inconsistent results. OBJECTIVES: In this study, we conducted meta-analyses to assess the possible association between kisspeptin hormone and its genetic aspect with PCOS. Additionally, we performed a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to clarify the cause-effect relationship of kisspeptin
