Implementation of antimicrobial stewardship interventions on prescribing rates for urinary tract infections in residential aged care facilities: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: Current research identifies a large proportion of urinary antimicrobial prescribing in aged care as being non-concordant, however, the efficacy of interventions targeted at reducing these prescriptions in aged care remains unclear. This review summarises effective interventions targeting non-concordant urinary antimicrobial prescriptions in aged care. METHODS: This review follows PRISMA reporting guidelines and includes studies published up to June 2024. The search aimed to capture interventional studies and included studies that examined urinary tract infections in

Evaluating the role of radiology in endometriosis in Spain.

INTRODUCTION: Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting approximately 10% of women of reproductive age and is frequently associated with pelvic pain and infertility. Diagnosis can be delayed by up to a decade, partly due to a lack of awareness of the disease among both patients and healthcare professionals. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a key tool in the diagnosis and management of endometriosis, but accurate interpretation requires experience and the use of appropriate protocols. AIM: To analyse the current state of training, clinical practice and MRI protocols for endometriosis a

Variation in practice and provision of contralateral symmetrising mastectomy after unilateral mastectomy for breast cancer: A UK national practice survey.

INTRODUCTION: Contralateral symmetrising mastectomy (CSM) may be a good alternative to breast reconstruction for some women following a single mastectomy for breast cancer, but women report challenges accessing care. We explored the current practice and provision of CSM as an alternative to breast reconstruction in the UK. METHODS: An online survey was developed to explore current pathways for women seeking CSM and the information and support provided. The survey was circulated via social media and the UK professional associations, July 2023-May 2024. One survey was completed per unit. Descri

A qualitative analysis on the implementation of a nudge intervention to reduce post-surgical opioid prescribing.

BACKGROUND: Reducing above-guideline opioid prescribing is one approach to reducing the availability of unused opioids. We describe contextual factors affecting the implementation and outcomes of a successful email 'nudge' aimed at reducing post-operative opioid prescribing, with the goal of informing future implementation and dissemination efforts. METHODS: Between October 2021-September 2022, we sent email nudges to general, orthopedic, and obstetrics/gynecology surgeons at 19 hospitals in a large integrated healthcare system in California whose patients had post-operative opioid prescripti

What is the current Dutch nerve management during amputation surgery?

Peripheral nerve management during limb amputation is essential, as neuromas frequently form after nerve transection. Some of which are painful and impair patient quality of life. Selecting the appropriate technique for nerve management is important as it may impact the development of painful neuromas. Diagnosis is often complex, and treatments may yield limited success, highlighting the importance of careful nerve handling at the time of surgery. In this study, we questioned Dutch plastic surgeons about their knowledge and preferred technique(s) in managing nerves during amputation surgery. A

[Antibiotic prescribing trends in German acute care hospitals from 2012/13 through 2021/22].

An important prerequisite for ascertaining rational antibiotic prescribing is the availability and evaluation of antibiotic use data. In this study we report evolving trends of antibiotic use in German hospitals during the last decade.Using drug dispensing data from acute care hospital pharmacies, we calculated yearly antibiotic use density values for the period from 2012/13 through to 2021/22. Use density was expressed as daily doses per 100 patient days, using both hospital adapted doses of antibiotics ("recommended daily dose", RDD) as well as WHO-"defined daily doses" (DDD). The 2021/22 da
