Faculty Training to Enhance Medical Education: Evaluating Laboratory Instructors at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH).

Background Medical education is essential for training competent healthcare professionals capable of addressing evolving patient needs. Faculty development plays a crucial role in improving teaching quality and supporting competency-based education (CBE), particularly in Honduras, where reforms aim to modernize medical curricula. Despite a long history of medical training, formal, standardized faculty development programs remain limited, with many instructors relying on informal, unstandardized training. This study evaluates the impact of a structured faculty development program designed to st

Incorporating coaching in the moment and coaching over time to support entrustable professional activity-based assessment in pathology residency training.

Entrustable professional activities have been implemented in pathology residency to support competency-based medical education. Coaching is an effective approach to support learner development that is gaining traction in medical education. Three residency programs implemented a two-part coaching program to support entrustable professional activities in pathology residency: coaching in the moment during formative entrustable professional activity assessments and coaching over time at end of rotation and semi-annual reviews. Program directors, faculty, and residents were asked to complete survey

Elevating physical activity as a public health priority: creation of the National Society of Physical Activity Practitioners in Public Health.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity has emerged as a distinct area of public health practice. As this field evolved, the need for a professional organization for physical activity practitioners in public health became evident. A collaboration of several existing public health professional organizations formed to address this new area of public health practice. The collaboration laid the foundation to establish a professional organization. National Association of Physical Activity Practitioners in Public Health (NSPAPPH) was launched in April 2006. NSPAPPH accomplishments to date include convening a

A qualitative study on the practicality of guideline recommended office blood pressure measurement in primary care.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: For accuracy, clinic blood pressure (BP) must be measured using a standardised, guideline-recommended protocol. Practicality of this has not been examined, which was the aim of this study. METHOD: Across Tasmania, Australia, 16 co-design workshops were undertaken with primary care health professionals who perform BP measurement (n = 63) and community members (n = 47). Workshops discussed whether the guideline-recommended BP measurement protocol was adhered to. RESULTS: There was awareness among health professionals of the recommended way to measure BP. However, non

Resilient, engaged and connected (REC) study: protocol for a type 2 cluster-randomised trial of the Chicago Parent Program in prekindergarten in low-income urban and rural communities.

BACKGROUND: Social, emotional and behavioural (SEB) problems are among the most common chronic disabilities affecting children growing up in poverty. They also have implications for children's school success as they affect essential social-emotional learning skills such as the ability to comply with rules, regulate emotions and get along with others. These skills are first learnt before kindergarten, in the context of a supportive, responsive and consistent parenting relationship. To date, school-based interventions to improve young children's SEB competence and learning have primarily targete

Perspectives from the Canadian public health community on the use, adoption barriers to, and implementation supports needed for the Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada: Release 2.0.

The Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada: Release 2.0 come at a moment when the public health sector is grappling with uneven capacity, shifting expectations, and the need for clearer professional grounding. Reflections from national engagement sessions and a modified Delphi survey reveal that practitioners anticipate using the competencies to strengthen education and training, guide human resource practices, support public health advocacy, and inform organizational planning. These aspirations are tempered by concerns about the practical realities of implementation, including securing

Competency-Based Health Professions Education in Evolution: Challenges and Adaptations After Implementation.

Health professions education is experiencing a paradigm shift, from a focus on the structures and processes of education to a focus on the outcomes health professionals must demonstrate to meet the healthcare needs of the public served. The Competency-based Health Professions Education (CBHPE) movement now has two decades of implementation experience in some contexts. Educators across health professions working on the design, planning, implementation, or maintenance of competency-based systems can benefit from the lessons learned through implementation efforts to date. In this manuscript, the

More Cases, Less Autonomy? The Paradox of Modern Orthopaedic Residency Training.

Orthopaedic residents may be logging more operations than prior generations, but concerns regarding their readiness for independent practice persist. This apparent contradiction reflects a limitation of case counts: participation does not measure autonomy, clinical ownership, judgment, or the ability to manage complications. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the vulnerability of surgical training, but declining operative autonomy predates the pandemic. Simultaneously, reimbursement pressure, throughput demands, expanding team-based care, and increasing subspecialization have changed how residents

Work-Life and Well-Being in U.K. Therapeutic Prison Officers: A Thematic Analysis.

Previous research has clearly demonstrated the positive impact of therapeutic interventions on offenders' well-being. Much less is known about the impact on prison staff facilitating and delivering such interventions. We employed qualitative methodology to capture a deeper understanding of the work of therapeutic prison officers. Seven prison officers working in a U.K. Category B therapeutic community prison were interviewed about their working lives, including their own participation in therapy. Following a thematic analysis approach, key findings indicated that the physical and cultural work

Searching PubMed for a broad subject area: how effective are palliative care clinicians in finding the evidence in their field?

OBJECTIVES: Health professionals must be able to search competently for evidence to support practice. We sought to understand how palliative care clinicians construct searches for palliative care literature in PubMed, to quantify search efficacy in retrieving a set of relevant articles and to compare performance against a Palliative CareSearch Filter (PCSF). METHODS: Included studies from palliative care systematic reviews formed a test set. Palliative care clinicians (n = 37) completed a search task using PubMed. Individual clinician searches were reconstructed in PubMed and combined with th

Chinese EFL teachers' knowledge of basic language constructs and their self-perceived teaching abilities.

The present study examined the knowledge and skills of basic language constructs among elementary school teachers who were teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in China. Six hundred and thirty in-service teachers completed the adapted Reading Teacher Knowledge Survey. Survey results showed that English teachers' self-perceived ability to teach vocabulary was the highest and self-perceived ability to teach reading to struggling readers was the lowest. Morphological knowledge was positively correlated with teachers' self-perceived teaching abilities, and it contributed unique variance ev
