CT-Guided Aspiration of a Hemorrhagic Tarlov Cyst for the Treatment of a Post-Partum Sciatica: A Case Report and a Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Tarlov or perineural cysts are dilations of nerve roots resulting from a pathologically increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure. Although it is very common in the general population, most of these cysts remain asymptomatic. In some cases, they can evolve and exert pressure on neural elements, independently from their initial size. CASE REPORT: In this paper, we describe the case of a 33-year-old female known to have asymptomatic multiple and large radicular and pelvic Tarlov cysts. One cyst located in the right pelvic space progressed acutely after delivery, inducing a painful scia

Analysis of 153 cases of odontogenic cysts in a South Indian sample population: a retrospective study over a decade.

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of odontogenic cysts and to identify their clinico-pathological features among patients by studying biopsy specimens obtained from the archives of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, College of Dental Sciences, Davangere, Karnataka, India, during the past 10 years. Data for the study were retrieved from the case records of patients fitting the histological classification of the World Health Organization (1992). Analyzed clinical variables included age, gender, anatomical location, and histological diagnosis. Of the 2275

[New surgical approach in apicoectomy of maxillary molars' palatal root].

The term of apicectomy has been well-known for more than 200 years, nevertheless it is not performed frequently on molars. As a result of this a lot of molars became extracted. The aim of the authors was to present the new surgical technique which is described in detail. The radicular cyst localised on the palatal root of the first maxillary molar was operated on. Uneventful healing was obtained. This surgical technique is recommended in some special cases.

Multiple bilateral dens in dente as a factor in the etiology of multiple periapical lesions.

A case of multiple bilateral dens in dente of the maxillary anterior region with associated multiple periapical lesions of the maxilla is reported. Examination demonstrated the condition known as dens in dente to be present in all six maxillary anterior teeth. Also noted was a large palatal swelling which was confirmed to be an infected maxillary radicular cyst. The multiplicity, severity, and consequences of the dens in dente as reported in this case may indicate prophylactic restorative therapy.

Pattern of odontogenic and nonodontogenic cysts.

The jaws are host to a variety of cysts due in large part to the tissues involved in tooth formation. Odontogenic cysts (OCs) are unique in that they affect only the oral and maxillofacial region. There are few studies from sub-Saharan Africa. This study was aimed at describing the pattern of various types of cysts in the oral and maxillofacial region in a Kenyan population. This was done at the Departments of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Medicine and Pathology, University of Nairobi Dental Hospital. This was a retrospective audit. All histopathologic records were retrieved from 199

Management and Outcomes of Ganglion Cysts of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament: A Systematic Review of Diagnostic and Surgical Approaches.

Ganglion cysts of the posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL) are a rare cause of lumbar radicular pain and claudication, primarily affecting young athletic males. These cysts are often linked to repetitive trauma and degenerative changes in the PLL, potentially aggravated by disc degeneration. Diagnosis is typically achieved through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with surgical excision being the preferred treatment in symptomatic cases. This systematic review consolidates the current knowledge on PLL ganglion cysts, examining clinical characteristics, diagnostic findings, and surgical outcom

Image segmentation-based volume approximation-volume as a factor in the clinical management of osteolytic jaw lesions.

OBJECTIVE: Size characterization of osteolytic jaw lesions (OJL), in particular of neoplastic nature, is heterogeneously performed and lacks standardization in the medical literature and clinical practice. An OJL's volume holds promise as a surrogate for treatment response and prognosis. We comparatively evaluate various methods for size characterization of odontogenic OJLs. METHODS: We retrospectively performed semiautomatic image segmentation of CBCT data sets for volume approximation of neoplastic (51) and non-neoplastic odontogenic OJLs (100). We assessed the three greatest orthogonal dia

[Follow-up study on coagulation stabilizing filling of bone defects using the new Gelastypt M after cystectomy of large mandibular cysts and after extraction of ectopic teeth].

The good results were confirmed in a follow-up examination of 23 patients two to six months after surgery. No signs of disturbed wound healing and/or inadequate organization of the clot could be observed catamnestically, clinically, and roentgenologically. The late infections often observed after implantation of Gelastypt S (with Surfen) did not develop after use of Gelastypt M 1/2. This preparation therefore may be recommended without restriction.

Anaesthetic considerations for elective cesarean section in a patient with a giant Tarlov cyst.

Tarlov cysts are a pathological dilatation of the meninges. Their incidence is more frequent in women between 30 and 50 years of age. The imaging test of choice for diagnosis is MRI. Of unknown etiology, most cases are asymptomatic, but symptoms of radicular irritation, among others, may occur. The therapeutic possibilities are multiple, reserving surgical excision as the last option. We report a case of successful spinal anaesthesia for elective cesarean section in a patient with a giant Tarlov cyst but with potential airway compromise, in whom the risks of general anaesthesia would be increa

Initial-Stage Primary Intraosseous Squamous Cell Carcinoma Derived from Odontogenic Keratocyst with Unusual Keratoameloblastomatous Change of the Maxilla: A Case Report and Literature Discussion.

Primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma (PIOSCC) is a rare malignant neoplasm derived from odontogenic epithelial remnants in the central jaw bone. Most PIOSCCs originate from odontogenic cysts with a nonkeratinized epithelial lining, especially from radicular/residual and dentigerous cysts. There have been few reports of PIOSCCs derived from the odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), particularly those describing pathological features at the initial stage. The diagnosis of PIOSCC is difficult and based on exclusion of other carcinomas, including metastatic tumors from other primary sites. Here, w

Surgical management of an odontogenic cutaneous sinus tract misdiagnosed for 4 years.

A cutaneous sinus tract of dental origin may easily be misdiagnosed and incorrectly treated. This paper reported a case of a 20-year-old male patient referred for a productive cutaneous sinus tract misdiagnosed by medical doctors for more than 4 years. The clinical and radiographic examinations confirmed the odontogenic origin related to a mandibular first right molar presenting an infected radicular cyst. Surgical treatment was performed leading to a significant healing of the sinus tract.

Role of inflammation in developmental odontogenic pathosis.

Periapical infection in the primary tooth may lead to periapical abscess, granuloma, radicular cyst and even osteomyelitis. The infection in primary teeth can also affect the developing successor teeth leading to hypomineralization, hypoplasia, arrest of tooth development, regional odontodysplasia, delayed eruption etc. The purpose of this article is to report a case of malformed permanent tooth in relation to overlying infected deciduous teeth. The probable role of inflammation in pathogenesis of the present condition is also being discussed.

Complications following replantation of a primary incisor: a cautionary tale.

The replantation of avulsed primary incisors is contra-indicated. This case describes an 8-year-old child who six years previously had avulsed and had replanted a primary central incisor. At presentation, this tooth was retained, the permanent successor had failed to erupt and appearance of the adjacent lateral incisor was notably delayed. Investigation revealed a radicular cyst in relation to the replanted deciduous incisor together with severe displacement of the permanent tooth, which could not be saved.

An extensive swelling in the anterior mandible - A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Glandular odontogenic cyst is a rare developmental odontogenic cyst, which often pose a challenge to diagnose it clinically. … ON: We had many differential diagnoses including keratocystic odontogenic tumour, ameloblastoma and radicular cyst. Incisional biopsy was taken from the most fluctuant area, which was histopathologically suggestive of glandular odontogenic cyst. Enucleation of the cyst, peripheral ostectomy, extraction of teeth and Carnoy's solution application were done under g …

Spontaneous resolution of symptoms associated with a facet synovial cyst in an adult female - a case report.

BACKGROUND: Facet cysts are implicated in neural compression in the lumbar spine. Surgery is the definitive treatment for symptomatic facet cysts since the failure rate for conservative treatment is quite high; however, the role of physical/manual medicine practitioners in the management of symptomatic facet cysts has not been well explored. This case report will add to the body of evidence of spontaneous resolution of symptoms associated with facet cysts in the chiropractic literature. CASE: A 58 year old female presented with acute low back and right leg pain which she attributed to a serie

Very Large Inflammatory Odontogenic Cyst with Origin on a Single Long Time Traumatized Lower Incisor.

One of the consequences of traumatic injuries is the chance of aseptic pulp necrosis to occur which in time may became infected and give origin to periapical pathosis. Although the apical granulomas and cysts are a common condition, there appearance as an extremely large radiolucent image is a rare finding. Differential diagnosis with other radiographic-like pathologies, such as keratocystic odontogenic tumour or unicystic ameloblastoma, is mandatory. The purpose of this paper is to report a very large radicular cyst caused by a single mandibular incisor traumatized long back, in a 60-year-old…
