The work is dedicated to the problem of orthopedic supply of patients with flatness of the anterior part of foot. There is proposed a number of footwear orthopedic devices made of foam rubber. There is described the technology of their production with application of modern polymeric materials. There has been studied prosthetics of 50 patients with flatness of foot and revealed the positive result of application of footwear orthopedic devices made of foam rubber.

A 55-year-old ambulatory woman with hemiplegia and varus foot deformity had several problems in her daily life, including load pain and stance instability in the affected foot, easy fatigue of the non-paralysed leg, low back pain, neck stiffness and rapid shoe-rubber wear on the deformed side. The author reports results obtained by the Handicap International Federation in two projects to combat lymphatic filariasis in Madagascar and in Burkina Faso. The strategies and activities combine a minimal package of activities (hygiene, prevention of skin injuries, exercise, elevation of lymphoedema, wearing comfortable shoes). The integration of these activities makes it possible to care for limb problems encountered in other neglected tropical diseases (leprosy, Buruli ulcers, and podoconiosis).

This paper reports bilateral congenital convex pes valgus frequently termed vertical talus. A successful simple one-stage surgical reconstruction is described to enhance the understanding of the management of this rare complex deformity. Long follow up is emphasized because of a high incidence of recurrence. There has been a one-year follow up so far. Plantigrade and painless feet have been achieved which enables the patient to wear normal shoes.

Hallux rigidus is a rather frequent, painful limitation of movements in the metatarsophalangeal joint of the great toe caused by arthrosis. A mechanical limitation of dorsal flexion due to osteophytes frequently causes a progressive plantar flexion with compensatory hypermotility in the interphalangeal joint. Therapeutic measures with technical modification of shoes and physical therapy are often insufficient and operative therapy aims at arthrodesis or remobilisation of the great toe's metatarsophalangeal joint.
