The development and psychometric evaluation of the Questionnaire Epistemic Trust (QET): A self-report assessment of epistemic trust.

Epistemic trust (ET) refers to the predisposition to trust information as authentic, trustworthy and relevant to the self. Epistemic distrust - resulting from early adversity - may interfere with openness to social learning within the therapeutic encounter, reducing the ability to benefit from treatment. The self-report Questionnaire Epistemic Trust (QET) is a newly developed instrument that aims to assess ET. This study presents the first results on the psychometric properties of the QET in both a community and a clinical sample. Our findings indicate that the QET is composed of four meaningf

Measurement equivalence: A non-technical primer on categorical multi-group confirmatory factor analysis in school psychology.

Evidence-based interventions (EBIs) have become a central component of school psychology research and practice, but EBIs are dependent upon the availability and use of evidence-based assessments (EBAs) with diverse student populations. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (MG-CFA) is an analytical tool that can be used to examine the validity and measurement equivalence/invariance of scores across diverse groups. The objective of this article is to provide a conceptual and procedural overview of categorical MG-CFA, as well as an illustrated example based on data from the Social and Academi

Impulsive and premeditated aggression: a factor analysis of self-reported acts.

Although aggression research in general has been hampered by a lack of objective measurements of aggressive acts, two types of aggressive acts, impulsive vs. premeditated, have been studied extensively in recent years. These two types of aggression have been primarily measured by structured or semi-structured interviews. The current study was designed to assess the construct validity of these two types of aggression using a self-report questionnaire which included items gleaned from the content of interviews used in past studies. For this study, 216 college students assessed their own aggressi

Participatory Development and Psychometric Evaluation of the Introspective Predictive Processing Inventory: A Self-Report Measure for Autistic and Non-Autistic Adults.

Traditional self-report autism measures are often constructed from an "outside view" by non-autistic researchers rather than reflecting authentic autistic experiences. Predictive processing theory offers a framework for understanding autism, but comprehensive tools assessing the subjective manifestations of predictive processing differences and associated challenges have been lacking. This study aimed to develop and validate the Introspective Predictive Processing Inventory (IPPI), a self-report measure assessing predictive processing characteristics and their subjective consequences in everyd

A motor learning therapeutic intervention for a child with cerebral palsy through a social assistive robot.

Background: Children with cerebral palsy have difficulty to sit, stand, walk, run and jump independently. Therapy is an important factor in improving these aspects, and if applied in early intervention treatments, when the child is growing, it could have many benefits. These therapies require intensive and extended sessions, which in turn demand dedication and effort. New strategies that provide interesting and motivating interventions are often incorporated to improve the participation and performance of the children in the therapies. Therapies using social assistive robots can be alternative

Developing a survey tool to assess gendered violence and mental health burden in migrants living in precarity.

BACKGROUND: Migrants living in precarious conditions often face gendered violence (GV) and poor mental health (MH). However, most of the existing GV and MH measures assume residentially stable populations, missing migration-related precarity or structural conditions shaping migrants' experiences. As a result, the intersection of GV, poor MH and precarity across migrant populations remains unstudied, especially in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings, that the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)-funded research programme Gendered Violence and Poor Mental Health amon

Associations among distorted cognitions and hypothetical parenting responses prior to parenthood.

Using path analytic methods, the present study used two social-cognitive models of maladaptive parenting to predict endorsements of child punishment in a sample of 101 young adults who had not yet become parents. Participants completed paper-and-pencil measures of expectations, attributions, current aggression, and responses to vignettes about child rearing and social situations. Results suggest that working models of parent-child relationships are related in predictable ways to endorsements of cognitive and behavioral responses toward children in vignettes, even in adults who are not yet pare

Construct validation of multiple sclerosis walking scale-12 scores among black individuals with multiple sclerosis: preliminary evidence.

BACKGROUND: The validity of inferences from 12-item Multiple Sclerosis Walking Scale (MSWS-12) scores has been established in homogeneous samples consisting largely of White people with multiple sclerosis (MS). There is evidence for differences in walking performance between Black and White people with MS, possibly explained by embodiment associated with structural racism and social determinants of health. The differences in walking performance might extend into perceptions of walking impairment as measured by the MSWS-12. PURPOSE: This study examined the construct validity of inferences from

Validation and Refinement of the Short Version of Perinatal Grief Scale in Chinese Women Who Experience Perianal Loss: A Psychometric Study.

BACKGROUND: The Short Version of the Perinatal Grief Scale (SVPGS) is a widely used scale of grief related to perinatal loss. This study aims to validate and refine the SVPGS among Chinese women experiencing perinatal loss by addressing its psychometric properties. METHODS: After translating the SVPGS from English to Chinese and conducting a pre-test with 20 end-users, followed by an assessment of content validity involving 10 experts, a cross-sectional study was conducted to assess its internal reliability and structure, concurrent, convergent, divergent, known-group validities among 353 wom

aVeRsive tension: A new virtual reality paradigm to assess emotional arousal in adolescent and young adult patients with symptoms of borderline personality disorder.

BACKGROUND: High emotional arousal (EA) is a core feature of borderline personality disorder (BPD). While virtual reality (VR) has shown promise in treating emotion-based disorders, research on VR applications for BPD remains limited, especially in adolescence. This study aimed to validate a novel VR-based aVeRsive tension paradigm for assessing EA in adolescents and young adults with BPD symptoms. METHODS: In a multimodal study, we investigated the validity of aVeRsive tension: We surveyed 62 patients with BPD symptoms and 62 healthy controls (HC) aged 13-25 years who completed two VR sessio

Assessing primary Tokophobia among Lebanese childless men and nulliparous women: psychometric validation of the Arabic versions of the fathers' fear of childbirth scale and Tokophobia severity scale.

INTRODUCTION: Tokophobia is an intense and pathological fear of pregnancy and childbirth. Despite its significance, no research in Lebanon has investigated primary tokophobia within the general population. Nevertheless, it is crucial to assess the attitudes of both women and men, as potential future parents, towards pregnancy and childbirth, particularly during these challenging times for the Lebanese population. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Tokophobia Severity Scale (TSS) and Fathers' Fear of Childbirth Scale (FFCS) for assessing primary tokophobia

Development of the Thalassaemia Adult Life Index (ThALI).

BACKGROUND: Beta Thalassaemia Major (βTM) is a chronic genetic illness whereby the challenges faced by patients exposes them to increased risk of psychosocial issues. Despite this, a disease-specific tool to measure the impact of this illness on adult patients has yet to be developed. METHODS: In collaboration with βTM adult patients, this study aimed to develop a comprehensive, disease-specific, easy to use psychometrically sound tool to measure the impact of chelation and transfusion dependent βTM in a cross-cultural patient group in England. The Thalassaemia Life Index (ThALI) was developed

Development and validation of the 22-item Tarumi's Modern-Type Depression Trait Scale: Avoidance of Social Roles, Complaint, and Low Self-Esteem (TACS-22).

AIM: Understanding premorbid personality is important, especially when considering treatment selection. Historically, the premorbid personality of patients with major depression in Japan was described as Shuchaku-kishitsu [similar to Typus melancholicus], as proposed by Shimoda in the 1930s. Since around 2000, there have been increased reports in Japan of young adults with depression who have had premorbid personality differing from the traditional type. In 2005, Tarumi termed this novel condition 'dysthymic-type depression,' and more recently the condition has been called Shin-gata/Gendai-gat

The Walsh Family Resilience Questionnaire: the Italian version.

BACKGROUND: Resilience focuses on strength under stress, in the context of adversity. Walsh's theoretical model identifies relational processes that allow families to tackle and overcome critical situations, dividing them into three domains of family function. The aim of this study was to assess resilience in families of patients with a chronic disease by adapting and validating the Italian version of the Walsh Family Resilience Questionnaire (Walsh-IT). PATIENTS AND METHODS: An Italian adult sample of 421 participants (patients and relatives) was collected with the aim to assess the reliabil

"Subthreshold" depression: is the distinction between depressive disorder not otherwise specified and adjustment disorder valid?

OBJECTIVE: Patients with clinically significant symptoms of depression who do not meet the criteria for major depressive disorder or dysthymic disorder are considered to have subthreshold depression. According to DSM-IV, such patients should be diagnosed with depressive disorder not otherwise specified (NOS) if the development of the symptoms is not attributable to a stressful event or with adjustment disorder if the symptoms follow a stressor. Research on the treatment of subthreshold depression rarely addresses the distinction between depressive disorder NOS and adjustment disorder. In the p
