The technetium-sulfur colloid liver-spleen examination is widely used to evaluate patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura for residual splenic tissue following splenectomy. High uptake of Technetium-99m Pertechnetate (99mTcO4) in situations unrelated to the presence of acid-secreting gastric cells has attracted recent attention. A 10 year old white girl, investigated for the possible presence of a Meckel's diverticulum, was found to have a partial volvulus of the proximal jejunal loop that exhibited intense localization of Technetium-99m Pertechnetate.

We introduce the innovative use of technetium-99m-labeled macroaggregated albumin to diagnose high-output heart failure in a patient with multiple myeloma with persistent congestion symptoms. Symptom resolution occurred with lenalidomide and steroids. This marks the first clinical use of technetium-99m-labeled macroaggregated albumin for clarifying high-output heart failure etiology.

Radionuclide angiography and static whole body imaging performed with technetium-99m-labeled particulates can clearly demonstrate differential shunting in patients with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) with Eisenmenger physiology. The anatomic arterial relationships in this condition which direct deoxygenated blood into the lower body (differential cyanosis) produce specific radionuclide images characterized by differential shunting of the technetium-99m-labeled particulates into the abdomen and lower extremity.

The goal of this pilot study was to compare three tracers for the detection of sentinel nodes in patients with lung cancer. Forty-eight patients with clinical N0 non-small cell lung cancer were enrolled. Indocyanine green (n=16) or isosulfan blue (n=18) was injected around the tumor intraoperatively, or technetium tin colloid was injected preoperatively under CT guidance (n=14). The early diagnosis of disk space infections and sacroiliitis in children can be difficult because of protean presenting symptoms, nonspecific laboratory studies, and normal plain films. Technetium phosphate scintigraphy has been reported as a diagnostic method with an accuracy of up to 100% in some series. In this case report we present two patients with negative technetium bone scans in the face of active infection, illustrating the need to pursue the diagnosis using other modalities.

Technetium-extraosseous accumulation of technetium-99m-methyl diphosphonate ((99m)Tc-MDP) on bone scan is not usual. It was described and in various diseases with solitary spleen or lung uptake. Simultaneous splenic, pulmonary and renal concentration of (99m)Tc-MDP has not been illustrated previously. Herein, we present a 17 years old man with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in whom (99m)Tc-MDP was accumulated in the spleen, both lungs and the kidneys. Related literature was mentioned.

A case of an ectopic gastric duplication cyst that appeared to arise from the pancreas in a 10-week-old infant with a superficial mass in the left upper quadrant is reported. Preoperative ultrasound showed a cystic lesion with an inner echogenic layer (mucosa) and an outer anechoic rim (muscle). Technetium scan demonstrated that there was a gastric-type mucosa in the cyst. It is suggested that the ultrasound findings are specific for a gastric duplication cyst and that ultrasound and technetium scan alone will adequately characterize these lesions preoperatively.
