BACKGROUND: The role of contact allergy in oral cavity disease processes is unknown.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine the prevalence of contact allergy to flavorings, preservatives, dental acrylates, medications, and metals in patients with oral disease.

Subjects were 20 patients with tongue cancer treated between April 1996 and December 2002 with intraarterial infusion of cisplatin (60-120 mg/m2) (and docetaxel 10-30 mg/m2) and intravenous infusion of sodium thiosulfate followed by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) (800-1000 mg/m2) for 3 to 5 days. A healed or healing allergic contact dermatitis is easily reactivated to a flare-up if the patient is provoked systemically with his particular allergen. 5 patients with contact allergy to gold were patch tested with a serial dilution of gold sodium thiosulfate. 1 to 2 months later, when positive test reactions were healed, the patients were given 1 intramuscular injection of gold sodium thiomalate. We report 11 patients seen between 1991 and 1994 with oral lichenoid lesions (OLL). In 10 cases, there was contact with dental amalgam fillings, and in patient no. 10 with both amalgam restorations and a gold crown. The last patient had, in addition to her OLL, lichen planus of the skin and genital mucosa. A one-step, eco-friendly ultrasound-assisted process is established for the rapid synthesis of sulfur-carbon composite cathode materials, avoiding the widely used, energy inefficient "melt-down" process for Li-S batteries. It is demonstrated that, without inserting sulfur into pores of carbon, the coulombic efficiency of SC/Li cell in the new DOL/D2 electrolyte is greater than 96% for 100 cycles, which is far superior to the reported numerous electrolyte formulations.

Appropriate preservation of a range of water types prior to analysis for endotoxin was investigated, including sample storage and addition of sodium thiosulphate. Biologically active endotoxin in water samples was assayed using a chromogenic Limulus Amoebocyte Lysate (LAL) assay. Statistical analysis of measured mean endotoxin levels obtained for samples with and without sodium thiosulphate showed no significant difference in results. Laboratory microcosm experiments were performed to determine whether chlorine-exposed Escherichia coli are capable of recovery (i.e., increase in numbers of culturable cells) in estuarine waters and if so what water-quality parameters are responsible for this recovery. One hundred and thirty six women with genital tuberculosis received combined antibacterial treatment (ABT) with adjuvant physiotherapy. The patients were divided into three groups: patients of group 1 had active genital tuberculosis treated with ABT plus electrophoresis of 3% sodium thiosulphate, group 2 had chronic tuberculous process treated with ABT plus ultrasound hydrocortisone therapy, group 3 received ABT alone. The findings demonstrate that noticeable improvement and reduction of treatment duration were observed in groups 1 and 2.

The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of 10% povidone--iodine solution for the decontamination of bone allografts. Bone samples were prepared and tested for sterility using a femoral head removed at the time of primary hip replacement. THE PURPOSE: Of our study is to assess the gravity of cyanide intoxication of children, in the ecological accident in January 2001.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We included in our study 127 children aged between 2 months and 17 years. They were hospitalized in January and February 2001, in the "Sf. Maria" Children's Hospital. Case analysis was based on data of the emergency unit and units where the children were sent after primary care.
