PURPOSE: Vesicourethral anastomosis in laparoscopic prostatectomy is a very difficult procedure. Our purpose in this study was to evaluate a new method using extracorporeal bladder neck traction with nylon thread for vesicourethral anastomosis during laparoscopic radical prostatectomy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 10 patients underwent laparoscopic radical prostatectomy by this technique, and we evaluated anastomosis time, operative time, and postoperative status of vesicourethral anastomosis.

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a proliferative retinopathy affecting predominantly immature children and children with low birth weight under 2500 g in 5-6%. During 11 years we operated on 15 eyes of 15 patients aged 5-31 years, because of late tractional retinal detachment (TRD) appearing on the basis of ROP. We evaluated a rabbit model of the vitrectomized eye. In 16% of eyes the surgical procedure leads to the development of traction detachment of the vascularized portion of the retina (medullary ray). The traction originates in the vitreous base and is probably transmitted to the posterior retina via a sheet of detached vitreous cortex. In time course and morphology this differs from the experimental traction detachment seen after the injection of cells. Provided this complication is recognized, the vitrectomized rabbit eye is a useful and economic model for experimental studies.

This prospective study was performed to determine the true incidence of deep vein thrombosis of the lower limb in children who had undergone halo-femoral traction to correct scoliosis before operation. Bilateral ascending phlebography of the lower limbs was performed on 54 children two days before spinal fusion and Harrington rod instrumentation. This retrospective study assesses the complications affecting the cervical spine after halo-pelvic traction in 83 patients who were followed up for a minimum of five years. Forty-four patients (53 per cent) had significant cervical complications such as radiological degenerative changes, avascular necrosis of the dens, loss of movement, pain or spontaneous fusion. The most important predisposing factors were a long period in the halo-pelvic apparatus, tuberculous kyphosis, stiffness of the spinal deformity and an age of 15 years or more at the time of application.

A retrospective comparative study was done of two groups of patients with displaced supracondylar fractures of the humerus.
