Vestibular stimulation is able to produce neurovegetative effects, which are disagreable and annoying. By an overflow of the vestibular stimulus to the neurovegetative centres changes in blood pressure and pulse rate are more frequently induced than are subjective neurovegetative symptoms as nausea, pallor etc. There is some correlation between both manifestations, but also some independency in occurrence.

The results of the study opening up new possibilities for differential diagnostics of vestibular and psychogenic dizziness are presented. A specially developed combined approach was used including a set of highly informative stabilometric tests for the verification of pathological changes in the vestibular analyzer, such as Romberg test with both open and closed eyes, tandem test, head turn and tilt tests. The groups of the subjected enrolled in the study were shown to possess statistically different stabilometric characteristics.

Vertigo follows headache as the second most common key symptom--not only in neurology and ENT medicine. Careful history-taking and a physical examination are sufficient for a correct diagnostic classification of most vertigo syndromes. In most cases, the etiology is benign, the course favorable, and treatment successful. In this brief overview, the clinical presentation and treatment of the most common peripheral and central vertigo syndromes are described, and the characteristics and treatment of the--to date too rarely diagnosed--subjective vertigo are described.

In this paper we wanted to assess clinical relevance of two vestibulospinal tests: standing test (derived from Romberg test) and past pointing test. In retrospective and prospective study 42 patients have been tested with standing test and 50 patients with past pointing test. All patients suffered from unilateral neurolabyrinthitis that had started from one day to two years prior to examination. All patients had unilateral areflexion, or hyporeflexion on caloric test using 10 degrees C water. Control group consisted of 32 healthy individuals for both tests.
