PURPOSE: This study aimed to document the self-reported trauma-related appraisals and coping strategies of injured workers with and without symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and to explore relationships between these cognitive variables and work potential.
METHOD: Sixty-nine (55% males) respondents previously admitted to a teaching hospital following accidental injury completed a self-report survey which included measures for PTSD, trauma-related appraisals, coping strategies and work potential approximately 8 months post-accident.

Out of a total of 624 consecutive gunshot autopsies from Münster and Hamburg, Germany, 32 cases (5.1%) were accidental. The accidents were self-inflicted in 3 cases while another person fired the gun in the remaining 29 cases. More than half of the victims were younger than 25 years and 75% were male. Bungee jumping is a relatively new recreational sport. Most emergency physicians and trauma surgeons have limited experience with its associated injuries. We report the case of a bungee cord attachment apparatus malfunctioning, resulting in a free fall of the jumper of approximately 240 feet. The presence of an air cushion on the ground prevented significant injury. Knowledge of the potential injuries of this new sport is crucial for effective management.

Accidental ligature strangulation is an uncommon occurrence, most often associated with autoerotic fatalities in adults or entanglement of clothing in machinery, household devices, or vehicles. We report a case of laryngotracheal separation due to accidental ligature strangulation in a 20-year-old female laborer employed at a toilet refresher production facility. The incident occurred when her scarf (dupatta) became entangled in an electric motor-powered double-cone blender, resulting in strangulation due to the blender's rotary motion. Accidental fish bone ingestion is a common manifestation at emergency departments. Postoperative ischaemia of the lingula is a complication of left upper lobe trisegmentectomy, usually attributed to a twist of the remaining lingula. It can also be related to other factors such as venous interruption. We report 3 cases of reoperation after lingula-sparing left upper lobectomy for suspected ischaemia. None were related to torsion. Accidental injury of the lingular venous drainage or abnormal venous pattern can be the leading cause of these ischaemia.
