In 20 years we registered 10 observations of male breast cancer (MBC), representing 1.3% out of 767 patients with breast cancer. Two observations of gynecomastia have been noted as a possible risk factor for MBC. A tumoral mass behind the areola suggested the diagnosis in 9 patients, whether in one case the attention was drawn by a bloody nipple discharge. Paget's disease of the nipple is a rare lesion that is not always associated with underlying breast cancer. The authors report three cases of Paget's disease; in two of the three patients examined, the disease became evident following the appearance of an erythematous and erosive lesion on the nipple and areola, but no clinical evidence of an underlying nodule. BACKGROUND: The phantom breast syndrome (PBS) is a complication of mastectomy which consists of a sensation of breast persistence after mastectomy. MATERIALS, PATIENTS AND METHODS: The incidence, clinical course and location of PBS in 97 operated women were studied for a 15-year period. All women were interviewed in postoperative follow-up controls after mastectomy.

The authors present the breast ultrasound findings of nine women with mammographic abnormalities typical of breast hamartomas. Two of the mammographically detected hamartomas could not be identified at breast ultrasound. Fibroadenoma is a common cause of discrete breast lumps in young women. Malignant schwannoma (MS) is a tumor of the Schwann or nerve sheath cells, most frequently occurring in the lower and upper extremities, trunk and head region. We report the third known case of MS of the breast, which occurred in a 27-year-old woman. The palpable tumor, about 1.2 cm in diameter, was localized in the upper inner quadrant of the right breast. After ultrasonography, mammography and fine needle aspiration cytology, the tumor was removed surgically.

In 25 years, 18 patients with breast cancer were treated at St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 16 were female and 2 were male. Cellular angiolipomas are benign fatty tumors that occur as multiple subcutaneous nodules on the extremities and trunks of young adults. Although clinically benign, they may occasionally mimic Kaposi's sarcoma or angiosarcoma histologically. We report the first case of cellular angiolipoma occurring in the subcutaneous tissue of the breast, a rare but well-recognized site of benign and malignant vascular tumors.

Sixteen of 194 premenopausal woman with breast cancer developed the disease in association with pregnancy. Eight were pregnant as diagnosis and eight were post-partum. Ultrasonography can be a valuable adjunct to mammography in the evaluation of breast pathology. Breast sonography can differentiate a cyst from a tumour. Fibroadenomas and carcinomas can often present characteristic ultrasonic features but, as a rule, ultrasonography does not give a confident diagnosis of benign or malignant tumour.
