Enhancing collaborative relationships and mental health literacy to improve school behavioral health for middle school students: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Escalating youth mental health challenges have challenged schools and providers to effectively support student well-being. School behavioral health (SBH) programs are evolving rapidly to meet this need, and this study pursued implementation of community-partner recommended enhancements to improve SBH programming and outcomes for students. METHODS: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of stakeholder-recommended enhancements to SBH on increasing the number of students and families engaged in therapy; and to evaluate the impact of the intervention on social, emotional, beha

Partnering With Doulas in Clinical Settings.

Fostering positive and strong partnerships between clinicians and doulas is essential and can benefit patients, clinicians, and the workplace. The evidence suggests that, when doulas are part of health care teams, they improve patients' experiences and outcomes. Doula-clinician partnerships have demonstrated improvements in communication and patient-centered care, accountability in the health care team, and continuity of care for individuals who have given birth. Doula support aligns with evidence-based outcomes and reduces costs to the overall health system. Barriers to doula-clinician partne

Advocacy without Borders: A Collaborative Journey in Nephrology Nursing Leadership.

Advocacy is an essential component of professional nursing practice, yet opportunities to experience advocacy across international health care systems are uncommon. This article describes a collaborative journey between leaders of the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) and the Canadian Association of Nephrology Nurses and Technologists (CANNT), beginning with a conversation at the 2025 CANNT Conference and concluding in participation at ANNA's 2026 Advocacy Forum in Washington, D.C. Through shared experiences, the authors explore similarities and differences in nurse advocacy within

The importance of collaborative care within the telepsychiatric care setting: A series of clinical case examples.

In 2024, approximately 25% of adults in the United States, or 60 million persons, had a mental health condition. It is well established that those with psychiatric diagnoses experience a reduction in life expectancy compared to those without and are more likely to experience a greater burden of medical comorbidity. Despite the increased risk of multiple medical comorbidities among those with psychiatric diagnoses, as many as 20% of individuals experiencing mental health challenges do not receive primary care services. In some cases, psychiatric providers might be the only source of medical car

Factors leading to patient disengagement for unknown reasons in virtual collaborative care.

INTRODUCTION: Collaborative care (CoCM) has been utilized as one strategy for improving access to behavioral health treatment through the primary care setting. However, despite the increased prevalence rates, need for services, and expansion of behavioral health into primary care, there are patients who initiate treatment but disengage for unknown reasons and without communication with their care team. This study analyzes treatment factors by comparing patients who disengage from CoCM for known versus unknown reasons to identify factors that may enhance the ability of providers to implement st

Collaboration, coordination and communication as facilitators of transitions for patients with advanced cancer: a scoping review linked to the Pal-Cycles project.

BACKGROUND: Person-centred care is becoming increasingly recognised as an important element of palliative care. The current review syntheses evidence in relation to transitions in advanced cancer patients with palliative care needs. The review focuses on specific elements which will inform the Pal-Cycles programme, for patients with advanced cancer transitioning from hospital care to community care. Elements of transitional models for cancer patients may include, identification of palliative care needs, compassionate communication with the patient and family members, collaborative effort to es

Enhancing interprofessional interagency collaboration for minoritized and low-income children with chronic illnesses.

Children with chronic illnesses present unique health, psychosocial, and learning challenges. Due to the complexities surrounding their needs, these children and their families often encounter multilayered barriers when accessing educational services and health care management. Medical-family-school interprofessional interagency collaborations (IIC) are needed to facilitate information sharing across institutions, treatment alignment among care partners, and equitable and high-quality school-based service delivery. This article presents a novel hospital-based school consultative liaison servic

A sense of injustice in care networks: An intersectional exploration of the collaboration between professionals and carers with a migration background.

This study tries to understand the power of knowledge within collaborative care networks to provide insights for designing successful collaboration within care networks by combining intersectionality and epistemic (in)justice. Becoming an informal carer for someone with an acquired brain injury (ABI) causes a dramatic disruption of daily life. Collaboration between professionals and carers with a migration background may result in unjust and unfair situations within care networks. Carer experiences are shaped by aspects of diversity which are subject to power structures and processes of social

A model of collaborative immigration advocacy to prevent policy-based trauma and harm.

OBJECTIVE: Research suggests that antiimmigrant policies enacted in the United States, magnified during the 2016-2020 period, propagate widespread trauma across communities of immigrants (von Werthern et al., 2018). While these policies harm all groups of immigrants, structural conditions (e.g., lack of documentation status, race, ethnicity, country of origin, and other social and legal determinants) shape how they are experienced. To address the widespread traumatic harm inflicted by racist and xenophobic policies, a group of leaders from eight Divisions of the American Psychological Associat

Therapeutic Assessment in Psychological Triage Using the PAI.

This case illustrates the utility of incorporating therapeutic assessment in a triage context that typically involves a focus on gathering information. A man referred to our clinic by a local mental health center was seen by our assessment team for a triage that includes the administration of a single psychological test, the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). Although this triage must rapidly gather information to determine client suitability and treatment assignment, we still attempt to work with clients to collaboratively develop goals for this assessment that include addressing questio

Toward a Global Consensus on Outcome Measures for Clinical Trials in Tinnitus: Report From the First International Meeting of the COMiT Initiative, November 14, 2014, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

In Europe alone, over 70 million people experience tinnitus; for seven million people, it creates a debilitating condition. Despite its enormous socioeconomic relevance, progress in successfully treating the condition is somewhat limited. The European Union has approved funding to create a pan-European tinnitus research collaboration network (2014-2018). The goal of one working group is to establish an international standard for outcome measurements in clinical trials of tinnitus. Importantly, this would enhance tinnitus research by informing sample-size calculations, enabling meta-analyses, a

One Health: Lessons Learned from East Africa.

Africa is faced with many of the most daunting challenges of our time. It comprises roughly 15% of the world's human population, and most of its countries are perpetually ranked "Low" on the United Nations' Human Development Index. On the other hand, Africa has arguably the largest proportion of intact natural ecosystems, biodiversity, and sociocultural capital and the lowest impact on global warming of any continent. Thus, African leaders are faced with competing demands and values among a multitude of complex issues, such as high human population growth, extreme poverty, food insecurity, lan
