Advancements in Medical Radiology Through Multimodal Machine Learning: A Comprehensive Overview.

The majority of data collected and obtained from various sources over a patient's lifetime can be assumed to comprise pertinent information for delivering the best possible treatment. Medical data, such as radiographic and histopathology images, electrocardiograms, and medical records, all guide a physician's diagnostic approach. Nevertheless, most machine learning techniques in the healthcare field emphasize data analysis from a single modality, which is insufficiently reliable. This is especially evident in radiology, which has long been an essential topic of machine learning in healthcare b

Cross-cultural data on romantic love and mate preferences from 117,293 participants across 175 countries.

Psychological studies on close relationships have often overlooked cultural diversity, dynamic processes, and potentially universal principles that shape intimate partnerships. To address the limited generalizability of previous research and advance our understanding of romantic love experiences, mate preferences, and physical attractiveness, we conducted a large-scale cross-cultural survey study on these topics. A total of 404 researchers collected data in 45 languages from April to August 2021, involving 117,293 participants from 175 countries. Aside from standard demographic questions, the

Predicting Social Anxiety Treatment Outcome Based on Therapeutic Email Conversations.

Predicting therapeutic outcome in the mental health domain is of utmost importance to enable therapists to provide the most effective treatment to a patient. Using information from the writings of a patient can potentially be a valuable source of information, especially now that more and more treatments involve computer-based exercises or electronic conversations between patient and therapist. In this paper, we study predictive modeling using writings of patients under treatment for a social anxiety disorder. We extract a wealth of information from the text written by patients including their

Comparison of Deep Learning Models for Objective Auditory Brainstem Response Detection: A Multicenter Validation Study.

Auditory brainstem response (ABR) interpretation in clinical practice often relies on visual inspection by audiologists, which is prone to inter-practitioner variability. While deep learning (DL) algorithms have shown promise in objectifying ABR detection in controlled settings, their applicability to real-world clinical data is hindered by small datasets and insufficient heterogeneity. This study evaluates the generalizability of nine DL models for ABR detection using large, multicenter datasets. The primary dataset analyzed, Clinical Dataset I, comprises 128,123 labeled ABRs from 13,813 part

Distinct shifts in site-specific glycosylation pattern of SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins associated with arising mutations in the D614G and Alpha variants.

Extensive glycosylation of the spike protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus not only shields the major part of it from host immune responses, but glycans at specific sites also act on its conformation dynamics and contribute to efficient host receptor binding, and hence infectivity. As variants of concern arise during the course of the coronavirus disease of 2019 pandemic, it is unclear if mutations accumulated within the spike protein would affect its site-specific glycosylation pattern. The Alpha variant derived from the D614G lineage is distinguished from others by

Population genomics of the Viking world.

The maritime expansion of Scandinavian populations during the Viking Age (about AD 750-1050) was a far-flung transformation in world history1,2. Here we sequenced the genomes of 442 humans from archaeological sites across Europe and Greenland (to a median depth of about 1×) to understand the global influence of this expansion. We find the Viking period involved gene flow into Scandinavia from the south and east. We observe genetic structure within Scandinavia, with diversity hotspots in the south and restricted gene flow within Scandinavia. We find evidence for a major influx of Danish ancestr

Bioinformatics analysis of key genes and pathways in Hashimoto thyroiditis tissues.

Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is one of the most common autoimmune diseases, and the incidence of HT continues to increase. Long-term, uncontrollable HT results in thyroid dysfunction and even increases carcinogenesis risks. Since the origin and development of HT involve many complex immune processes, there is no effective therapy for HT on a pathogenesis level. Although bioinformatics analysis has been utilized to seek key genes and pathways of thyroid cancer, only a few bioinformatics studies that focus on HT pathogenesis and mechanisms have been reported. In the present study, the Gene Express
