INTRODUCTION: Parents are vulnerable to psychological distress symptoms in the postpartum period. It is routine to screen for depressive symptoms, but anxiety, stress, fatigue, irritability and insomnia symptoms are less often assessed despite their prevalence. This study aimed to assess multiple dimensions of psychological distress, and their reliable change and clinically significant change among women admitted to a residential program for assistance with unsettled infant behaviors (UIB).
METHOD: Women admitted to a five-night residential early parenting program completed self-report measur

OBJECTIVE: To explore the dose-response associations of physical activity (PA) during pregnancy with antenatal depression (AD) and postpartum depression (PPD).
METHOD: Thirteen electronic databases were searched from inception to April 8, 2026 and additionally screened references manually. Interventional and longitudinal observational studies in pregnant populations were eligible if they reported dose-response associations for PA during pregnancy in relation to AD or PPD; cross-sectional studies were excluded. Linear and nonlinear dose-response meta-analyses were conducted.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common mental health condition that negatively affects maternal wellbeing and child development. Although daily lifestyle behaviors have been implicated in PPD, the roles of breakfast skipping and mealtime regularity, which are key components of chrononutrition, remain insufficiently understood. This study examined the associations between mealtime regularity and postpartum depressive symptoms in first-time Japanese mothers.
METHODS: The cross-sectional study was conducted through an online survey and included 841first-time Japanese mothers with a

BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a prevalent maternal mental health condition with significant consequences for mothers, infants, and families. The determinants and functional implications of PPD vary across populations, highlighting the need for population-specific data. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of PPD, identify associated risk factors, and assess functional impairment using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). METHODS: This was a prospective cross-sectional observational study. Sociodemographic, obstetric, neonatal, and psychosocial characteristics were c

General anesthetics can exert significant adverse effects on the central nervous system. This study aimed to investigate whether repeated exposure to sevoflurane induces depression-like behaviors in postpartum rats. Pregnant rats were exposed to 3% sevoflurane for 2 h on gestational days 13-15. Emotional behaviors were assessed on postpartum days 1, 7, 14, and 21. Hippocampal protein levels associated with the AMPK/SIRT1/NLRP3 signaling pathway were analyzed by Western blotting. Microglial activation and inflammasome expression were analyzed by immunofluorescence, and cytokine levels (IL-1β, I

PURPOSE: Approximately one-in-ten individuals experience depression during pregnancy, a period marked by considerable biopsychosocial change. Prior research has investigated perinatal depressive symptom change and identified links to negative health outcomes, such as hypertension and delivery complications. However, it is unknown if these findings extend to pregnant people with higher weight, who may have increased risk. Additionally, understanding how depression experiences during pregnancy impact postpartum eating disorder (ED) symptoms and cardiovascular health behaviors can provide insight

BACKGROUND: Clinically, postpartum depression (PPD) is frequently diagnosed with maternal comorbid mental disorders (postpartum anxiety, PPA; personality disorders, PDs) in mothers. Its association with impaired Parental Embodied Mentalizing (PEM) remains unclear. This study aims to investigate embodied risk and protective factors of parental mentalizing in PPD-mothers. More risk factors and fewer protective factors were hypothesized as a function of comorbidities.
METHOD: Sixty-eight mothers with infants aged 3-10 months were examined using the Parental Embodied Mentalizing Assessment™ (PEMA

BACKGROUND: Improvement in the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) score is a regulatory-approved measure for symptom improvement in postpartum depression (PPD). While digital solutions have the potential to overcome common treatment barriers, few have shown clinically significant improvement in PPD symptoms, as measured by the EPDS.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of the MamaLift Plus digital therapeutic for the improvement of PPD symptoms in women who had recently given birth and had PPD, as assessed by the EPDS.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression (PPD) affects 30-50% of women with a history of previous depression or bipolar disorder and 8% of women with no history of depression. Negative cognitive biases in the perception of infant cues and difficulties with emotion regulation are replicated risk factors. Current interventions focus on detecting and treating rather than preventing PPD. The aim of this randomized controlled intervention trial is therefore to investigate the potential prophylactic effects of prenatal affective cognitive training for pregnant women at heightened risk of PPD.

BACKGROUND: Research studies have shown an increased prevalence of mental health issues in women with unplanned pregnancies. However, many of these studies use cross-sectional methods. This particular study aimed to examine perceptions of stress and depression in women with unplanned pregnancies compared with those with planned pregnancies. The study tracked these perceptions, from the early stages of pregnancy to 12 months postpartum.
METHODS: In this quasi-experimental study, pregnant women attending health centers completed a baseline questionnaire around the fifth month of pregnancy. This

BACKGROUND: The transition to motherhood is associated with the emergence or exacerbation of symptoms of emotional distress disorders for many women. Although adolescence is a developmental period of increased risk for mood disorders and emotion dysregulation among women, little is known about changes in emotional distress across the early postpartum years among adolescent mothers. We tested the hypothesis that symptoms of depression and borderline personality disorder (BPD) would differ between pregnant and non-pregnant adolescents, and that these differences would be maintained in the three
