The authors have used alpha-blockers in the everyday treatment of prostatic symptoms for the past four years. The results are good and would appear to be more effective than the majority of other treatments. Efficacy is remarkable in dysuria and acute urinary retention. The authors report their experience based upon 300 cases. This alpha-blocker therapy using phenoxybenzamine makes it possible to delay operation and to avoid it in certain cases. In particular, it facilitates the pre- and post-operative phases. Marketing of this drug in France should be encouraged.

A 56-year-old male patient with no significant clinical history manifested lumbar pain, macroscopic hematuria and dysuria. Radiology images found a renal mass in the upper right pole at the pyelocaliceal level. A partial nephrectomy was performed to resect the tumor, and histology revealed the diagnosis of a renal epidermoid cyst, which is an infrequent lesion with a benign biological behavior. Its etiology is still controversial, but its clinical course is satisfactory after complete resection of the lesion.

Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the prostate is a rare tumor. An 80-year-old man was admitted to hospital for half a year because of progressive dysuria and pain. Laboratory examination: TPSA 7.24ng/ml; FPSA 1.610ng/ml,%FreePSA 14.3%. Urine routine was normal. He was treated with thulium laser surgery of the prostate. The pathological result was poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the prostate. This report is helpful to the clinical manifestation and treatment of the disease.

A rare triad of Wolffian duct anomaly known as Zinner syndrome includes unilateral renal agenesis with ipsilateral seminal vesicle cyst and ejaculatory duct obstruction. It is often diagnosed in third and fourth decades of life. Patient presents with dysuria, perineal pain, infertility and painful ejaculation. The aim of this case report is to show the importance of the radiological imaging on diagnosis of Zinner syndrome. MRI being the modality of the choice for the confirmation of the diagnosis is vital in further management of the syndrome.

Nephrogenic adenoma (nephrogenic metaplasia) is a rare benign urological condition, which may present with hematuria, dysuria, and urinary frequency. In the prostatic urethra, it can be misdiagnosed as adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Risk factors for prostatic NA include trauma, infection and prior endourological procedures. We report a case of prostatic NA, presenting with isolated macroscopic hematuria in a man with a history of laser therapy of the prostate for benign prostate hyperplasia, and review the recent literature on the subject.

We report an extremely rare case of a dermoid cyst of the urinary bladder in a 30-year-old female who presented with pain in the left flank and dysuria since 9 months. On imaging (ultrasound and computed tomography), a relatively well-defined mass lesion with areas of fat and calcification was seen arising from the bladder wall. Cystoscopy showed presence of hair on the surface of the lesion. Histopathological findings were consistent with dermoid cyst in the urinary bladder.

Urethral diverticulum in the male is a rare entity that may be congenital or acquired. They are common in paraplegic patients, who are prone to developing this disorder on an acquired basis because of prolonged catheterization. The most common diseases in patients with spinal cord injury are stricture, fistula and diverticula. Patients with diverticula typically present with symptoms of urinary incontinence, dysuria, perineal pain, or a mass on the ventral aspect of the genitalia or perineum. Treatment of choice is always surgical and a complete extirpation should be performed.

The case of a 69-year-old female patient come to our observation with the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma on histology and cystoscopy is discussed. Symptoms were characterized by dysuria, vaginal spotting and abdominal pain. CT and NMR for staging and control CT during chemotherapy were performed. They documented marked reduction of the neoformation protruding into the bladder and concentric urethral thickening associated with volumetric stability of intercavoaortic lymph node involvement and stable condition of the other localizations.

The authors present a case of severe cervico-urethral obstruction by Von Brunn cysts. These cysts are often found even in macroscopically healthy bladders, but only rarely reach such a size as to be revealed by ultrasound. They can be asymptomatic or cause obstruction if large. They are no longer considered preneoplastic lesions and are therefore treated according to symptoms. When these cysts cause dysuria they are removed, preferably by transurethral resection, as it is the only method (unlike needle aspiration) which prevents recurrence.

A case of eosinophilic cystitis in a child is presented and the pediatric literature reviewed. The etiology of this condition is still unknown. Mean age of children with eosinophilic cystitis is 5.9 years. Black children appear to be more affected than white children, with a male preponderance. Hematuria and dysuria are the most common symptoms. The diagnosis of eosinophilic cystitis is made by cystoscopy with biopsy. The disease appears self-limited with its course unaltered by antibiotics. Recurrence of eosinophilic cystitis is possible.

Polypoid cystitis, pyelonephritis, and obstructive uropathy was found in a cow with hematuria, dysuria, and colic. The cow was treated with penicillin, multiple B vitamin supplementation, and isotonic sodium chloride. Polypoid cystitis, diagnosed in this cow by use of endoscopic examination, is a common response to chronic inflammation of the bladder and can lead to obstructive uropathy. Although endoscopic confirmation of this diagnosis may not always be feasible, recognition of corresponding clinical signs can allow timely, appropriate treatment.

The clinical effects of terodiline hydrochloride were evaluated in forty-four patients with urinary frequency and/or sense of residual urine. After a four-week treatment with 24 mg terodiline hydrochloride once daily, subjective symptoms were improved and micturition frequency was decreased significantly. Slight dysuria was reported as a side effect only in one patient. Terodiline hydrochloride is considered to be superiorly effective and safe for the treatment of urinary frequency and sense of residual urine.

Though no bacteria were isolated, a diagnosis of Yersinia enterocolitica infection was confirmed in two patients by strongly positive serology tests, with levels much above the normal. Both patients had fever, hepatic granulomatosis, and electrocardiogram anomalies, and there was associated dysuria and prostatitis in one case. The authors review the hepatic, urinary, and electrocardiogram manifestations reported in the published literature, and describe the antigenic and serologic relationships existing between Y. enterocolitica type 9 and Brucella abortus.
