Effects of concentric and concentric-eccentric resistance training on speed and force in adult soccer players.

This study investigated the effects of concentric and concentric-eccentric strength training on speed and strength performance in sub-elite soccer players. Thirty-four healthy Czech soccer players were randomly assigned to a concentric group (CONG, n = 13), concentric/eccentric group (ECCG, n = 12), or control group (CG, n = 9). All participants completed the study. Over an 8-week intervention period, the CONG and ECCG groups accomplished 16 training sessions focused on leg curl and leg extension exercises. Speed and strength assessments were performed at baseline and post-intervention. While

The Impact of Unilateral and Bilateral Plyometric Training Combined With Linear Sprints on Physical Performance in Youth Male Elite Futsal Players.

PURPOSE: To compare the effect of linear sprint training combined with plyometric training involving unilateral compared with bilateral exercises on youth male elite futsal players' physical performance. METHODS: During 4 weeks of their regular futsal training routine, players were randomly distributed into groups. Plyometric training involved bipedal (BG, n = 13) or unipedal (UG, n = 11) horizontal maximum-intensity jumps, and linear sprint training involved maximal-intensity 10-m sprints. The 2 training groups completed an equal number of total jumps (n = 837) and sprints (n = 280), and the

Effects of Different Conditioning Activities on the Sprint Performance of Elite Sprinters: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis.

PURPOSE: Postactivation performance enhancement (PAPE), which refers to the phenomena associated with the attainment of enhanced performance in sport-specific tasks after a conditioning activity, is an important objective of warming-up practices in many sports. This is even more relevant for sprinters, as potential increases in sprinting speed will directly influence their competitive results. This systematic review with meta-analysis evaluated the effects of different PAPE protocols (ie, using plyometrics, strength-power exercises, and resisted/assisted sprints) on the sprinting performance (

Unusual vitamin E profile in the oil of a wild African oil palm tree (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) enhances oxidative stability of provitamin A.

INTRODUCTION: The African oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is the predominant oil crop in the world. In addition to triacylglycerols, crude palm oil (CPO) extracted from the mesocarp of the fruits, contains high amounts of provitamin A (carotenes) and vitamin E (tocochromanols). Because of their unsaturated nature, the carotenes are prone to oxidation and therefore are in part limiting for the shelf life of CPO. METHODS: A tree with unusual toochromanol composition was identified by HPLC screening of the mesocarp of wild trees. Polymorphisms in a candidate gene were identified by DNA sequen

The Effects of Stress Mindset, Manipulated Through Serious Game Intervention, on Performance and Situation Awareness of Elite Female Football Players in the Context of a Match: An Experimental Study.

Background: Performance levels in football are ever more important and no longer are just physical, technical, and tactical skills, the ones that make an athlete stand out. Cognitive variables, such as stress-coping, become more important and seem to be explaining differences in performance, for example, through reaching an optimal level of arousal. In addition, it is suggested that stress-coping skills also affect situation awareness (SA), important for decision-making in the complex and dynamic situations in football. Objective: This study was conducted to examine how stress-coping skills, s

Characterizing the cortical pathways underlying visual trigger induced urinary urgency incontinence by functional MRI.

AIMS: Visual triggers have long been recognized clinically to stimulate urgency urinary incontinence (UUI). Current pathophysiology recognizes the importance of cortical control over micturition but there is no standardized methodology for clinicians to study the impact of visual triggers. Our aim was to develop an imaging protocol able to characterize the brain's response to personalized visual triggers, providing a methodology for evaluation on connectivity within the brain in patients with visually triggered urinary urgency. METHODS: A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methodology specific

Transcriptome heterogeneity of porcine ear fibroblast and its potential influence on embryo development in nuclear transplantation.

There is heterogeneity among donor cells of the same source. Many studies have shown that donor cell affects the efficiency of somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). However, the potential influence of donor cell heterogeneity on the efficiency of nuclear transplantation were rarely analyzed at the single-cell level. In this study, single-cell transcriptome sequencing was performed on 52 porcine ear fibroblasts randomly selected from the same source to compare their gene expression patterns. The results showed that 48 cells had similar gene expression patterns, whereas 4 cells (D11_1, D12_1, DW

Elicitor-Based Biostimulant PSP1 Protects Soybean Against Late Season Diseases in Field Trials.

Currently, fungicide application in soybean production accounts for an important amount of global pesticide use, and it is therefore most desirable to find new healthier and more environmental friendly alternatives for the phytosanitary management in this crop. In this study, we present convincing evidence for effective induction of disease protection by the agricultural biostimulant PSP1, a formulation based on the plant-defense eliciting activity of the fungal protease AsES (Acremonium strictum elicitor subtilisin), in multiple field trials in Argentina. PSP1 was shown to combine well with c

ACL Rehabilitation Plateaus Across Athlete Populations: Two Case Reports and a Clinical Framework for Identifying Functional Stagnation.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rehabilitation typically follows a structured protocol for progressive recovery. However, not all subjects achieve expected functional milestones, despite adherence. Rehabilitation plateaus-defined as stagnation in physical progress-are often underrecognized in musculoskeletal cases. The concept of rehabilitation plateaus remains underexplored in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, particularly in ACL reconstruction recovery. The purpose of this case series was to explore clinical rehabilitation plateaus that occur during ACL reconstruction r
