BACKGROUND: The failure of the conventional nailing of both forearm bones or isolated fractures of radius and ulna pose a potential problem of nail migration and rotational instability, despite the best reduction. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the results of screw elastic intramedullary nail for the treatment of adult diaphyseal fractures of both forearm bones, which effectively addresses the problems associated with the conventional nailing systems for the forearm fractures.

Our understanding of the hemodynamic consequences of radial artery harvest to the upper extremity has changed our considerations when approaching soft tissue defects of the hand. A critical assessment of the donor site morbidity of radial forearm (and radial artery) harvest is necessary to discern the role this flap should have in our current and future reconstructive armamentarium. A review of the available data and discussion of its implications is provided.

The dyaphyseal nonunion of forearm bones is a complication that changes the normal interaction between radius and ulna, which may lead to forearm malfunction. We reviewed 14 patients treated by surgical technique included a homologous bone graft in combination with a plate. The mean age was 31 years (range, 18-45 years) at the time of surgery. This study sought to evaluate the incidence of neurologic injury in children referred for manipulation in our hospital. A retrospective chart analysis of the first 100 children to be referred with a fracture of any segment of the radius and/or ulna was performed. The incidence of neurologic injury was found to be 15.6%. Neurological injury occurs most frequently with distal physeal fractures with an incidence of 37%. Ecthyma contagiosum (orf) is a dermatosis commonly seen in those in contact with sheep. It is caused by Parapoxvirus ovis (orf virus), an oval epitheliotropic DNA parapox virus. The skin disease develops in stages starting as a macule or papule, becoming nodular, and then regressing. Diagnosis is based on history and histology, as well as identifying the virus through cell culture or specified polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The treatment of this self-limited disease is usually symptomatic.
