Burst fracture of the fifth lumbar vertebra with unilateral facet dislocation: case report.

A case of a burst fracture in conjunction with a facet dislocation of the fifth lumbar vertebra in a 15-year-old boy is reported. The patient was treated with open reduction and stabilization of L4 to S1 with a reduction-fixation stabilization system and placement of a Taylor-Knight brace. At 1-year follow-up examination the fusion was solid and the boy had resumed full activities.

Calcaneal fracture-dislocation with entrapment of the medial neurovascular bundle: a case report.

The calcaneus is the most commonly fractured of all the tarsal bones. Soft-tissue interposition, usually involving the peroneal tendons, has been reported to block reduction of calcaneal fractures and subtalar dislocations. To our knowledge, no case of entrapment of the neurovascular bundle has been reported. This is the subject of our report.

Fracture-dislocation of the thoracic and lumbar spine: advantages of halo-bifemoral traction.

Thoracic and lumbar fracture-dislocations with 100% spinal column displacement are uncommon injuries that usually have associated neurologic injury. Severe spinal malalignment and instability can result in blood loss, tenting of skin and, severe pain. Four patients with thoracic or lumbar fracture-dislocations were initially treated and reduced with halo-bifemoral traction. Fracture reduction with halo-bifemoral traction decreased pain, controlled instability, relieved skin pressure, and prevented the need for acute surgical intervention. In addition, use of halo-bifemoral traction allowed for

[Fracture-dislocation of pelvis in the adult female: clinical analysis of 105 cases].

Pelvic fractures with or without dislocation in 105 females, aged above 15 years, were studied. 47.6% of the fractures was through the antero-posterior ring. Among the complications, genital organ injury happened in 15 patients (14.5%): rupture of uterus in 5 (3 wombs conceived over 3 mon, 1 in period of nursing, 1 in normal state), rupture of ovary in 2, rupture of ovarian tube in 1 and laceration of vagina in 7. They were treated accordingly in urgent need. Follow-up of 1 to 5 years, averaging 5.3 years, showed various sequelae related to original pelvic trauma, of which accounts were given.

[Irreducible fracture dislocation of the cervical vertebrae. Patho-anatomical study using frozen sections].

A young patient with tetraplegia resulting from an unstable and irreducible fracture dislocation of the lower cervical spine unexpectedly died from an intercurrent gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Following routine autopsy the whole, intact cervical spine was frozen in situ, tomographed in the lateral projection and sectioned through on a heavy duty cryomicrotome with use of a newly modified technique. Detailed analysis of 50 sections revealed, among other things, that a fragment from the lacerated intervertebral disc had become impinged between the body of a vertebra and the spinal cord constitut…

Acetabular disruption and central fracture-dislocation of the hip. A long-term study.

Displaced acetabular fractures are serious injuries often resulting in permanent disability. Fifty-five patients with fifty-six such injuries seen at the Campbell Clinic between 1927 and 1970 had either central dislocation with or without fracture of the weightbearing dome, or acetabular disruption usually associated with posterior displacement of the hip. After an average follow-up of 8.6 years, 56 per cent of those treated without surgery had good or satisfactory results compared with 54 per cent good or satisfactory results in those treated surgically. Patients with displaced fractures of t

Functional recovery after open talar neck fracture with foot dislocation: A case report.

We report a Gustilo-Anderson type IIIA open talar neck fracture (Hawkins type II) with medial foot dislocation after a fall from a ladder. Treatment consisted of single-stage surgical management including meticulous irrigation and debridement, anatomical reduction with screw fixation, combined with systemic antibiotics, local vancomycin application, plaster cast immobilization, and adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Fracture healing proceeded without major complications, and screw removal was performed at 1½ years due to local irritation. At final follow-up, 3½ years after injury, the patie

Clinical Outcomes of Multiligament Knee Fracture Dislocation at Minimum 2-year Follow-up.

To report clinical and functional outcomes, including patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), complications, reoperation rates, and arthritic progression in patients who sustained a knee dislocation (KD) type V fracture dislocation at minimum 2-year follow-up. A retrospective review from a prospectively collected database was performed to identify all patients with a KD type V fracture dislocation between 2001 and 2022 at a single institution. Patient demographics, pre- and postoperative clinical examination findings, intraoperative details, and postoperative complication rates were obtaine…

Missed intrathoracically displaced humeral head in proximal humerus fracture dislocation: A case report.

CASE: We report a case of a 44-year-old female with intrathoracic displacement of the humeral head, which was not only missed by the initial trauma team while receiving the patient but also missed by multiple senior surgeons during primary management in the operating room. CONCLUSION: Diagnostic accuracy hinges on clinical presentation and detailed imaging locating fragments of the fractured head. Interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly with thoracic and trauma surgeons, is crucial for early diagnosis and timely recovery. The possibility of intrathoracic dislodged head should not be rul

A Rare Case of Intramediastinal Humeral Head Fracture Dislocation Through the Thoracic Inlet.

Intramediastinal fracture dislocation of the humeral head due to a blunt trauma is very rare. It may be accompanied by local and systemic injuries associated with high-energy trauma. Only one case has been reported in the literature; therefore, an appropriate treatment modality remains unclear. We present a case of a 71-year-old woman involved in an accidental fall who sustained an intramediastinal humeral head fracture dislocation through the thoracic inlet, without damaging the chest wall, causing the thoracic duct rupture and requiring three consecutive surgical procedures as treatment.

Proximal Humerus Allogenic Transplant for Treatment of a Complex Proximal Humerus Fracture-Dislocation.

Proximal humerus fracture-dislocations are complex injuries, particularly when there is extensive bone loss, compromised soft tissues, or failed initial treatment. We present the case of a 23-year-old male with a chronic shoulder fracture-dislocation following a fall. Initial management involved open reduction and internal fixation, but postoperative imaging revealed hardware failure and recurrent shoulder dislocation. The patient then underwent humeral head reconstruction using an iliac crest autograft. However, two months later, subluxation and humeral head necrosis were detected. A second r

Femoral head fracture management: outcomes of surgical hip dislocation with bioabsorbable screw fixation.

PURPOSE: Pipkin fractures are rare, complex hip injuries typically caused by high-energy trauma. Surgical management must balance adequate exposure with preservation of femoral head vascularity. We evaluated outcomes of surgical hip dislocation with absorbable screw fixation for Pipkin fractures. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 10 patients with Pipkin fractures treated by surgical hip dislocation and absorbable screw fixation at Foshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from December 2018 to March 2023. Demographics, Pipkin classification, and injured limb were recorded. All patients

Posttraumatic Anterior Hip Dislocation with Ipsilateral Comminuted Intertrochanteric Fracture: A Rare Case Report.

Hip joint is a ball and socket type of joint and its anatomic features makes it very stable. However, Incidence of hip dislocation has increased recently due to high energy trauma like road traffic accident, fall from height etc. It is usually associated with fracture of femoral head, neck, shaft and acetabular wall. Association of ipsilateral intertrochantric fracture is exceedingly rare and only a few case reports are available in the literature. We are presenting a rare case report of neglected anterior hip dislocation with ipsilateral comminuted intertrochanteric fracture managed with hemi
