OBJECTIVE: To compare the characteristics of repeat HIV testers with first-time testers in a National Health Service HIV testing clinic in London.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to clinic attenders between September 1995 and January 1996. The sample was stratified by gender and sexual orientation. Repeat and first-time testers were compared with respect to recent sexual risk behaviour, reasons for taking the HIV test, condom use, knowledge of sex partner's HIV status, and sociodemographic and psychosocial variables.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the travel history of clients presenting at a genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic in order to assess the contribution made by sexual partnerships abroad to STD transmission in the UK.
SUBJECTS: 386 old and new clients who attended during a 3-month period and who had travelled abroad in the 3 months preceding their visit.

In the temperate climate countries, AIDS is defined as the occurrence of opportunistic infections and/or Kaposi's sarcoma in adults, mostly homosexuals. It can be preceded by a related state of asthenia, loss of weight, adenopathies, diarrhoea, but which is far from always developing into AIDS. Reported data on cases of primary and secondary syphilis in the United States during 1967-1979 were analyzed by age, race, sex, and reporting source. Although the incidence of primary and secondary syphilis fluctuated little in the United States between 1967 and 1979, the ratio of male to female cases increased twofold, from 1.5:1 to 3:1. Three clinical cases were presented to demonstrate the capacity to utilize psychoanalytic techniques in the treatment of young adults with sexual maladaptations. Psychoanalytic treatment of adolescents with sexual maladaptation can be gratifying, as the young patient is amenable to the reworking of earlier developmental psychopathology. Where symptomatic sexual disturbance is noted, the pregenital and oedipal instinctual impulses can be creatively examined in a psychoanalytic situation. Therapeutic flexibility and cultural awareness are vital ingredients for a successful outcome.

OBJECTIVE: Sexual minority women (lesbians, bisexual women, and women who partner with women) experience high rates of trauma exposure, are more likely to develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and have high rates of physical health problems compared with heterosexual women.
