NIR-II-Photopyroelectric Catalysis for Immunoactivation/Ferroptosis Combined Therapy of Tumor.

Second near-infrared (NIR-II) light is desired to drive photocatalytic therapy owing to its high tissue penetrability and operationality, but the efficiency of direct NIR-II-photocatalytic H2 generation is negligible owing to a trade-off between narrow semiconductor bandgap and high redox potential. Here, this work proposes a new concept of photothermal-pyroelectric cascade catalysis (photopyroelectric catalysis) to circumvent the trade-off for enhanced NIR-II light-driven catalytic efficiency, and develop a novel kind of multifunctional ZnS:Cu nanoparticles with a wide bandgap (2.7 eV) and hi

Treatment of the facial basal cell carcinoma with the use of photodynamic therapy: A case report.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer. It accounts for approx. 80% of human skin cancers and belongs to the group of non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC). The highest incidence of this cancer is visible in older people, over 65 years of age. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a clinically approved method with a selective cytotoxic activity. It is used in the treatment of superficial forms of BCC, precancerous conditions (hyperkeratosis, actinic keratosis) and non-cancerous diseases (acne vulgaris, infection with herpes simplex virus - HSV, leukoplakia, lichen planus). The aim of the

Adjunctive 810 nm photobiomodulation with pharmacotherapy for trigeminal neuralgia: A randomized controlled trial in a tertiary care centre.

BACKGROUND: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a debilitating orofacial pain disorder. Pharmacotherapy with carbamazepine is the mainstay of treatment, but adverse effects and tolerance often limit its long-term use. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has shown promise in managing various neuropathic pains, yet no study has assessed its efficacy as an adjunct in TN treatment within an Indian population. METHODS: In this single-center randomized controlled trial, 40 patients with classical TN were randomly allocated into two groups: Group I received carbamazepine alone, and Group II received carbamazepi

Effect of Photobiomodulation on Salivary Nitrite in Patients with Chemotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background: Oral mucositis (OM) is a severe inflammatory and ulcerative condition of the oral mucosa commonly induced by chemotherapy. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy has been proposed for preventing and treating OM. However, the understanding of light interaction with biological tissues and the variability in light sources and protocols limit its widespread application. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of PBM on salivary nitrite levels, a marker of oxidative stress associated with inflammation and tissue damage. Materials and Methods: This prospective, randomized, double-blind clinica

Multi-excitation fluorescence spectroscopy for analysis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The increasing incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD) and the consequent progression to cirrhosis is expected to become a major cause of liver transplantation. This will exacerbate the organ donor shortage and mean that 'marginal' fatty liver grafts are more frequently used. Autofluorescence spectroscopy is a fast, objective, and non-destructive method to detect change in the endogenous fluorophores distribution and could prove to be a valuable tool for NAFLD diagnosis and transplant graft assessment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A system was constructed

Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy with Diode laser and Methylene blue as an adjunct to scaling and root planning: A clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic periodontitis, the most common periodontal disease, is the destruction of tooth supporting structures and alveolar bone which may result in teeth exfoliation. Conventionally, treatment aims at decreasing bacterial load by mechanical debridement and systemic or local delivery of antibiotics. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is a safe alternative adjunct therapy for elimination of pathogenic bacteria in periodontal pocket. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of aPDT with 660 nm diode laser and methylene blue as an adjunct to scaling and root planning (
