Infectious diseases caused by bacterial pathogens are a leading cause of mortality worldwide. In particular, recalcitrant bacterial communities known as biofilms are implicated in persistent and difficult to treat infections. We present a case of pancreatic panniculitis in a patient with alcohol abuse where Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum was isolated from a pannicular nodule on the crus. The patient was started on linezolid treatment leading to regression of the patient's symptoms. Upon discontinuation of linezolid treatment progression of the skin symptoms progressed.

In the present work, we evaluated the effect of gatifloxacin on the evolution of experimental murine infection with Nocardia brasiliensis using linezolid as a control. Gatifloxacin was injected subcutaneously at 100 mg/kg body weight every 8 h for 4 weeks. This compound was equally as efficient as linezolid in reducing the production of lesions.

Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is the most severe form of tuberculosis (TB) with high mortality. This study evaluated the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentration and safety of the novel oxazolidinone contezolid compared to linezolid in TBM patients. This study investigated the in vivo efficacy of three bacteriophages combined compared with linezolid in two mouse models (nondiabetic and diabetic) of Staphylococcus aureus foot infection. In both models, a single injection of bacteriophages in the hindpaw showed significant antibacterial efficacy. Linezolid was as effective as bacteriophages in nondiabetic animals but ineffective in diabetic animals. These findings further support preclinical and clinical studies for the development of phage therapy.
