Galactorrhea and the defective luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.

Twelve patients with primary infertility due to a defective luteal phase associated with hyperprolactinemia and galactorrhea are reported. All were treated with 2-bromoergocryptine. During the first cycle of therapy, the serum prolactin level decreased in all cases, and galactorrhea disappeared during the second cycle of therapy. Seven women responded to 2-bromoergocryptine, as was reflected in their endometrial biopsies. The remaining five were given clomiphene citrate on the second and sixth days of the next 2-bromoergocryptine cycle. Three of these patients responded favorably to this combi

Prevalence and associated factors of menstrual irregularities among reproductive-age women attending KAAH hospital, Hargeisa, Somaliland: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Menstrual irregularities are defined as cycles shorter than 21 days, longer than 35 days, or varying more than 7 days, impacting 5-30% of reproductive-age women globally. In Somaliland, sociocultural taboos, restricted access to sanitary products, and inadequate health infrastructure worsen underreporting and unmet needs. This study determined the prevalence and characteristics of irregular menstruation among reproductive-age women who visited KAAH Hospital, Hargeisa. METHODS: A cross-sectional hospital-based study design enrolled 288 women aged 15-49 years, who were attending the

A prospective follow-up of two 21/7 cycles followed by two extended regimen 84/7 cycles with contraceptive pills containing ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone.

BACKGROUND: Continuous use of combined oral contraceptives is currently attracting growing interest as a means of improving menstrual related symptoms and reducing the number of bleeding days. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate bleeding patterns, menstrual symptoms and quality of life with an extended 84/7 oral contraceptive regimen versus 21/7 cycles. METHODS: In two consecutive run-in cycles, 30 microg ethinyl estradiol and 3 mg drospirenone tablets taken on days 1-21 were followed by a tablet-free period from days 22 to 28 of each cycle and then by two 84 day cycles of pill use with a 7 day tablet-f

Laboratory and clinical experience in 55 patients with macroprolactinemia identified by a simple polyethylene glycol precipitation method.

PRL exists in different forms in human serum. The predominant form is little PRL (molecular mass 23 kDa) with smaller amounts of big PRL (molecular mass 50--60 kDa) and at times big big or macroprolactin (molecular mass 150--170 kDa). The frequency and clinical consequences of macroprolactinemia have not been clearly established, mainly because of difficulty in identifying these patients biochemically. This previously required the use of gel filtration chromatography, which could not be used routinely. Recently, a screening test using polyethylene glycol (PEG) has been used to identify macropr

Impact of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy on Menstrual Regularity and Spontaneous Pregnancy in Morbidly Obese Women: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background and Objectives: Obesity is a major contributor to female reproductive dysfunction, frequently resulting in menstrual irregularity, anovulation, and subfertility. Bariatric surgery improves metabolic health; however, its effect on reproductive outcomes-particularly the shift from assisted to spontaneous conception-remains incompletely defined. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on menstrual cycle regularity and spontaneous pregnancy rates in women of reproductive age. Materials and Methods: This retrospective observational study included
