Association of Trichorhinophalangeal Syndrome and Loose Anagen Syndrome: A Case Report.

Trichorhinophalangeal syndrome (TRPS) is an autosomal dominant disease characterized by trichologic, craniofacial, and musculoskeletal abnormalities. Predominant clinical features include a pear-shaped nose with bulbous tip, long philtrum, protruding ears, and sparse hair on both the scalp and the lateral third of the eyebrows. Cone-shaped epiphyses are a common radiographic finding. Loose anagen syndrome (LAS) is a sporadic or autosomal dominant condition due to abnormalities in the hair's anchoring mechanism. It mostly affects children, who usually have reduced hair length, as well as hair t…

Fetal malformations associated with chronic polyhydramnios in singleton pregnancies.

Forty-one congenital malformations were found in 28 newborns in a group of 197 cases of chronic polyhydramnios in singleton pregnancies. Of these, a total of 61% (17/28) was antenatally diagnosed ultrasonically. Nine newborns (4.5%) had malformations of the central nervous system (CNS), 9 (4.5%) cardiovascular malformations, 8 (4.1%) musculoskeletal anomalies, 7 (3.6%) malformations of the urinary and reproductive system, 4 (2%) respiratory system anomalies and 3 (1.6%) anomalies of the gastrointestinal system. Chromosomal abnormalities were found in three cases. As the association of polyhydr

Neurologic abnormalities of Lyme disease: successful treatment with high-dose intravenous penicillin.

Twelve patients were treated with high-dose intravenous penicillin for neurologic abnormalities of Lyme disease. Headache, stiff neck, and radicular pain usually began to subside by the second day of therapy and were often gone by 7 to 10 days. Five of the 12 patients continued to have intermittent mild headache for several more weeks, but no patient relapsed after therapy was stopped. Compared to 15 previous patients treated with prednisone alone, the duration of meningitic syndrome was significantly shorter in those given penicillin (mean duration, 1 versus 29 weeks, p less than 0.000001). Presence of Cervical Vertebral Anomalies with Concomitant Non-Communicating Hydrocephalus and Multicystic Kidney in a Female Fetus: Where VACTERL-H Meets MURCS.

BACKGROUND: Congenital multisystemic lesions with co-occurrence of non-random malformations, such as VACTERL-H or MURCS association, often pose serious threads to the newborn and still constitute an antenatal diagnostic dilemma. CASE REPORT: A malformed fetus with VACTERL-H association at 20 gestational weeks had a skin-covered neural tube defect (NTD) of the lower cervical spine, concomitant hydrocephalus, as well as unilateral multicystic dysplastic kidney and the suspicion of mullerian duct anomaly as potentially assigned to MURCS association. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: We were able to demons

[Macrodystrophia lipomatosa. A rare disease with rheumatic manifestations].

The author presents the case of a 32-year-old woman with the diagnosis of Macrodystrophia Lipomatosa associated with carpal tunnel syndrome. Macrodystrophia Lipomatosa is a rare form of localized gigantism characterised by an abnormal overgrowth of the mesenchymal elements of one or more digits. For the rheumatologist this disease has interest due the possibility of musculoskeletal complaints, namely compression of the neurovascular structures and local degenerative articular disease.

Techniques for the management of burn contractures with the Ilizarov Fixator.

The Ilizarov fixator was used to correct chronic burn deformities of the foot and ankle. These contractures can be classified as "simple" or "complex" based on associated deformities and musculoskeletal function. The simple, undirectional deformities of equinus, cavus, rockerbottom, and toe dislocations are fairly easy to correct and maintain. Correction and maintenance of complex deformities with varus or valgus angulation, bone abnormality, or muscle loss are more difficult.

[Personalized lower-limb gait assessment method based on musculoskeletal modeling and machine learning].

To address the issues of insufficient objectivity and difficulty in locating muscle dysfunction in current lower-limb gait assessment methods, this paper proposes a personalized lower-limb gait assessment method that integrates a musculoskeletal model with machine learning. First, a personalized musculoskeletal model is constructed using human biomechanical simulation software through model scaling and optimized calibration of key muscle parameters, and the validity of the proposed model is verified by comparing simulation results with experimental data. Second, the peak coefficient of variati

Radiomics and Deep Learning for Disease Detection in Musculoskeletal Radiology: An Overview of Novel MRI- and CT-Based Approaches.

Radiomics and machine learning-based methods offer exciting opportunities for improving diagnostic performance and efficiency in musculoskeletal radiology for various tasks, including acute injuries, chronic conditions, spinal abnormalities, and neoplasms. While early radiomics-based methods were often limited to a smaller number of higher-order image feature extractions, applying machine learning-based analytic models, multifactorial correlations, and classifiers now permits big data processing and testing thousands of features to identify relevant markers. A growing number of novel deep lear

First report of THOC6 related intellectual disability (Beaulieu Boycott Innes syndrome) in two siblings from India.

THOC6 is a newly described causal gene for an autosomal recessive intellectual disability (ID) - Beaulieu Boycott Innes syndrome (BBIS) (OMIM # 613680). It is characterized by ID with dysmorphic facies, genitourinary, cardiac anomalies, and dentition problems. Here, we report the first two siblings of BBIS from the Indian subcontinent with previously unreported skeletal anomalies such as Sprengel shoulder, calcaneo valgus deformity, radioulnar dysostosis, and overlapping toes. Whole exome sequencing (WES) identified previously reported three missense variants (p.Trp100Arg, p.Val234Leu, p.Gly27

Musculoskeletal ultrasound of the ankle and foot.

Despite the tendency for injuries of the foot and ankle to be readily localized at physical examination, the examiner is advised to perform an ultrasound examination when indicated with a routine and systematic approach. This allows for comprehensive evaluation of all the relevant structures and affords the necessary experience to recognize abnormal anatomy when it is present. Musculoskeletal ultrasound examination strongly complements other diagnostic tools used in the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle pathology.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging of Short T2 Tissues Using Quantitative Ultrashort Echo Time Double-Echo Steady-State: A Feasibility Study.

To evaluate the feasibility of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) using quantitative ultrashort echo time double-echo steady-state (qUTE-DESS) MRI in short T2 musculoskeletal tissues, we validated it in phantoms, an ex vivo porcine hoof, and an in vivo human knee. The qUTE-DESS sequence was implemented on a clinical 3 T MRI system, enabling simultaneous estimation of T1, T2, and diffusivity in tissues with rapid signal decay. Data were acquired with six diffusion-weighting orientations (x, y, z, xy, yz, xz) to obtain mean diffusivity (MD) and fractional anisotropy (FA). Sucrose and agarose phantom
