A 6-year-old white female presented with a fetal rhabdomyoma of the posterior mediastinum and retroperitoneum. Radiologic evaluation and family history revealed features of the nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBS). Literature review disclosed two other children with NBS and fetal rhabdomyoma, which should be regarded as one of the soft tissue tumors associated with NBS.

A 65-year-old man presented with 4 weeks of partial right visual field loss. A left occipital granular cell tumor was diagnosed via open biopsy. No specific tumoricidal therapy was given, and the patient returned 2 weeks later with fluent dysphasia and mild right hemiparesis, and formed visual hallucinations. A large left parietotemporal mass, separate from the granular cell tumor, was diagnosed as a glioblastoma multiforme by stereotactic biopsy. The histogenesis of cerebral granular cell tumors is controversial; this case supports recent speculation of their possible glial origin.

A case of adenomatosis coli complicated with malignant lymphoma of the spleen is described herein. An increase in the serum lactic dehydrogenase level of a 50 year old female was noted 9 years after she underwent a total colorectal resection for adenomatosis coli complicated by cancer. A tumor was observed in the spleen on CT and ultrasonography, and a diagnosis of malignant lymphoma was subsequently made by biopsy. The case of a 59-year-old man who was diagnosed as having neoplastic angioendotheliosis by biopsy of a small hemangioma on the skin is reported. The clinical features were characterized by hypersomnia, memory disturbance, disorientation to time and mild left hemiplegia including the face. Neuroendocrine carcinomas are rare neoplasms of the larynx and hypopharynx. Tumours composed of both neuroendocrine and squamous cell elements are very rare. We report a case of a primary hypopharyngeal carcinoma composed of both squamous cell and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma and discuss the treatment of this patient and management of neuroendocrine carcinomas of the larynx and hypopharynx.

A review of 545 patients with clinically diagnosed rectal carcinoma was conducted to determine the diagnostic usefulness of pre-operative barium enema and the frequency with which it was employed. Only 118 patients underwent pre-operative barium enema (21.7%). This successfully outlined the whole colon in 107 (90%). Synchronous carcinomas were detected in 9.3% of patients who underwent complete barium enema, compared to 4.3% of those who underwent laparotomy alone (P less than 0.05). We experienced a case of blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome with familial onset. The patient was a 32-year-old male with a gallstone and many bluish rubber bleb-like hemangiomas on the skin. A case is presented in which a histologically proven prolactin secreting pituitary macroadenoma was associated with a large suprasellar craniopharyngioma. The pre-operative prolactin concentration was 8180 mU/l. Although hyperprolactinaemia up to 3000 mU/l in patients with a craniopharyngioma is usually due to stalk compression, greater values may indicate an associated prolactinoma.

We report a 13-year-old boy with two independently detected cavernous hemangiomas of the scrotum and the penile shaft. A right scrotal cavernous hemangioma was incidentally found at the age of 6 years by a histological examination of a right scrotal hematoma attributed to contusion. Association of monoclonal gammopathies of undetermined significance with primary hyperparathyroidism has been reported by several investigators. We reviewed the records of our cases of surgically proven parathyroid adenoma with serum protein electrophoresis within 6 months preceding parathyroidectomy.
