Effects of Initial Periodontal Therapy on Intraoral Bacterial Flora in Patients With Oral Contraceptive-Related Severe Gingivitis.

Gingivitis is a common inflammatory condition of the gingival tissues, influenced by microbial plaque and various systemic factors, including hormonal changes. Oral contraceptives containing estrogen and progestin are known to exacerbate gingival inflammation. We report the case of a 20-year-old Japanese woman who presented with gingival swelling and bleeding despite self-care, with a history of orthodontic treatment and oral contraceptive use. Clinical examination revealed probing pocket depths of ≥ 4 mm and bleeding on probing in more than half of the sites, a periodontal inflamed surface ar

The effects of anterior bite plane on temporomandibular joint and mandibular morphology.

OBJECTIVES: An anterior bite plane (ABP) is an orthodontic appliance that prevents posterior teeth from making contact. This appliance's functional concept is to reduce muscle activity, overcome deep overbite, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders (TMD). However, ABP treatment for malocclusion frequently results in unfavorable reversible and irreversible long-term effects. This problem presents difficulties for dentists in developing an appropriate treatment modification plan in order to achieve the best results. As a result, the goal of this study is to observe the effects of different

Biomechanical effects of different numbers and locations of screw-in clavicle hook plates.

BACKGROUND This report describes the case of a 9-year-old boy with unilateral fracture of the mandibular condyle and malocclusion managed using a function-generating bite (FGB) orthodontic appliance. The mandible is a frequent site of trauma in children, occurring in 12-56% of facial fractures. Condylar fractures are about 29-52% of mandibular fractures, with high-neck fractures represent 9-12%. Maxillofacial surgery during growth remains controversial, and treatment typically requires not only addressing the fracture but also any associated malocclusion. If a condylar fracture is inadequately

Genetic Pattern, Orthodontic and Surgical Management of Multiple Supplementary Impacted Teeth in a Rare, Cleidocranial Dysplasia Patient: A Case Report.

Background: Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare, autosomal dominant skeletal dysplasia with a prevalence of one per million births. The main causes of CCD are mutations in the core-binding factor alpha-1 (CBFA1) or runt-related transcription factor-2 (RUNX2), located at the 6p21 chromosomal region. RUNX2 plays important roles in osteoblast differentiation, chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation, and tooth formation. The disease is characterized by clavicular aplasia or hypoplasia, Wormian bones, delayed closure of cranial suture, brachycephalic head, maxillary deficiency, retention
