Ova of Paragonimus westermanii were identified on Papanicolaou stained slides prepared from bronchial washings of a 40 year-old Korean-American male. In addition to evaluation for neoplasia, a careful search of all cytological material for non-neoplastic conditions is mandatory in our routine practice, especially in this age of population mobility.

The migration route and the development of P. siamensis obtained from S. juliae and S. germaini were studied in B. indica. The infection rates of P. siamensis in these 2 species of crabs were 19.7% and 21.4% respectively. Worms were recovered in the abdominal cavity, pleural cavity and lungs on day 12, 16 and 30 respectively after oral infection. A first case of Paragonimus kellicotti infection, in the United States, involving a nonimmigrant adult, is reported. Diagnosis was made on sputum cell block sections and demonstration of the characteristic operculated ova of the parasite by direct sputum smear preparation. The patient had never been outside the United States. He responded favorably to praziquantel and was asymptomatic after therapy.
