[Formation of plasma cell infiltrates in gingiva of patients with chronic apical periodontitis].

The structure of leukocyte infiltrates in gingiva of 80 patients of various ages and gender with chronic apical periodontitis was studied using light microscopy with the application of monoclonal antibodies detecting CD38 antigen. Gingival tissues of practically of all the patients with periodontitis contained 2 types of leukocyte infiltrates: infiltrates with the low plasma cell content and high numbers of neutrophils and structures with high number of plasmocytes and low concentration of neutrophilic granulocytes. Within the gingival epithelium in patients with chronic apical periodontitis C

Beyond X-Rays: Unveiling the Future of Dental Diagnosis with Dental Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Diagnostic imaging is fundamental in dentistry for disease detection, treatment planning, and outcome assessment. Traditional radiographic methods, such as periapical and panoramic radiographs, along with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), utilize ionizing radiation and primarily focus on visualizing bony structures. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is emerging as a non-ionizing alternative that offers superior soft tissue contrast. However, standard MRI sequences face challenges visualizing mineralized tissues due to their short transverse relaxation times (T2), which results in rapid sign

Root canal complications: 'the hypochlorite accident'.

Root canal treatment is performed routinely in dental practice, using sodium hypochlorite which serves as an effective irrigant. The literature reviewed shows that several complications following irrigation with sodium hypochlorite may occur, but few practitioners are aware of it and its management. Such complications include injury to skin, oral mucosa and eyes, damage to clothing, air emphysema, allergic reactions, and injection beyond the foramen. In this article, a case report of injection with sodium hypochlorite beyond the foramen is presented, together with a review of the recent litera

Necrosis of the gingiva caused by calcium hydroxide: a case report.

The present case demonstrates the possible detrimental effect of an overextension of a calcium hydroxide intracanal dressing into the periradicular and soft tissue after iatrogenic buccal root perforation of a maxillary central incisor. At first this perforation was not recognized by the dentist, which resulted in the introduction of a large amount of non-setting calcium hydroxide paste under the gingival tissues through a dehiscence on the buccal side of the root. This report describes the consequences and management of the necrosis of the buccal gingiva and mucosa, and the subsequent treatme

Exogenous Nitric Oxide in the Treatment of Dental and Oral Diseases.

Nitric oxide (NO), a gaseous signaling molecule, is increasingly recognized for its central role in the pathophysiology of dental and oral diseases. Dysregulation of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and consequent impairment of endogenous NO production have been implicated in a range of oral conditions. Accordingly, exogenous NO therapy has garnered significant interest due to its broad-spectrum antibacterial, potent anti-inflammatory, tissue-regenerative, and potential antitumor effects. This review provides a comprehensive overview of therapeutic advances in exogenous NO for dental and oral disea

Rapidly progressive angiomatous epulis: How to differentiate a benign gingival lesion from malignancy?

Angiomatous epulis, also known as vascular epulis or gingival pyogenic granuloma, is a benign reactive gingival lesion characterized by marked capillary proliferation. It typically develops in response to chronic local irritation, trauma, inflammatory stimuli, or hormonal influences. Clinically, it presents as a rapidly growing erythematous to violaceous gingival mass with a marked tendency to bleed, which may mimic malignant gingival tumors and raise diagnostic concern. Although the diagnosis is primarily based on clinicopathological correlation, imaging plays an important complementary role.

Nasopalatine Duct Cyst with Impacted Inverted Mesiodens: A Rare Case Report and Literature Review.

Nasopalatine duct cyst (NPDC) is a non-odontogenic, developmental epithelial cyst that accounts for 1% of maxillary cysts. It often arises due to the spontaneous proliferation of the epithelial tissue remnants, although trauma, bacterial infection, and mucous retention may also trigger the proliferation. Owing to its slow-growing, asymptomatic nature, the cyst is often discovered as an accidental finding during routine clinical and radiographic examinations. However, the majority of cases present as a tiny, asymptomatic swelling just posterior to the palatine papillae. Radiographically, it app

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma of the Anterior Maxilla Mimicking a Chronic Apical Abscess.

Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs) are malignant neoplasms of the lymphatic system, typically occurring in the fifth through seventh decades of life. Tumors develop from abnormal lymphocyte proliferation and accumulation. Although a majority of NHLs occur in nodal regions, 40% of cases appear in extranodal sites involving the stomach, spleen, Waldeyer's ring, central nervous system, lung, skin, and bone. Extranodal NHL presents a diagnostic challenge because it may mimic endodontic disease when occurring in intraosseous and soft tissue sites. This case report presents misdiagnosis of a diffuse large
