Radionuclide examination of the cerebral blood flow as well as rheoencephalographic, electroencephalographic and experimental-psychological techniques were used to study the nature and interrelationship of changes in the hemodynamics and brain function in middle-aged and elderly people with initial manifestations of cerebral atherosclerosis. It was shown that the cerebral hemodynamics and neurometabolism may be improved by vasoactive means.

Nailfold capillary patterns were studied in 107 patients with Raynaud's phenomenon (RP), including patients wih (n = 39) and without (n = 68) connective tissue disease (CTD). Capillary density was decreased in patients with sclerodactyly, digital ulcers, tuft resorption, and telangiectasia, compared with patients without these symptoms. A unique case of pachydermoperiostosis, multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, and secondary osteoarthritis is described. An additional interesting feature was the presence of acroosteolysis of the distal phalanges of fingers and toes. Scintigraphic, thermographic, plethysmographic, and capillaroscopic studies suggested increased blood flow through clubbed fingers, raising the possibility that this may play a role in the pathogenesis of pachydermoperiostosis.

Vertigo, lightheadedness, syncope, and hypotension occurring after implantation of a ventricular pacemaker has become known as pacemaker syndrome. To determine whether disodium cromoglycate (cromolyn) inhibits the bronchoconstriction produced by inhalation of sulfur dioxide (SO2) in people with asthma, we undertook a study of 6 asthmatic subjects.
