Contributions of NR1H3 genetic polymorphisms to susceptibility and effects of narrowband UVB phototherapy to nonsegmental vitiligo.

Vitiligo is the most common depigmenting disorder to which both genetic and environmental factors contribute. The aim of the current work was to evaluate the relationship between polymorphisms of the gene nuclear receptor subfamily 1 Group H member 3 (NR1H3) and the risk of vitiligo and phototherapy effects in the Chinese Han population. Two independent samples were enrolled to form the discovery set (comprised of 1668 nonsegmental vitiligo [NSV] patients and 2542 controls) and the validation set (comprised of 745 NSV patients and 1492 controls). A total of 13 tag single nucleotide polymorphis

Evaluation of ADRB2 and OATP2A1 genetic polymorphisms in Indian patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.

The emergence of adrenergic β2-receptor (ADRB2) blockers has revolutionized glaucoma treatment, while the discovery of prostaglandin analogs has further expanded therapeutic options. Organic anion transporting polypeptide 2A1 (OATP2A1/SLCO2A1) facilitates the corneal transport of topical prostaglandins into anterior segment of eye. Our study aims to elucidate the prevalence of genetic polymorphisms in the ADRB2 and OATP2A1 to address variations in therapeutic responses among glaucoma patients. The study cohort comprised primary open-angle glaucoma patients (POAG, n = 77), compared to non-glauc

Assessment of genetic polymorphisms associated with malaria antifolate resistance among the population of Libreville, Gabon.

BACKGROUND: Gabon is a malaria-threatened country with a stable and hyperendemic transmission of Plasmodium falciparum monoinfection. Malaria drug resistance is widely spread in many endemic countries around the world, including Gabon. The molecular surveillance of drug resistance to antifolates and artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) is one of the strategies for combating malaria. As Plasmodium parasites continue to develop resistance to currently available anti-malarial drugs, this study evaluated the frequency of the polymorphisms and genetic diversity associated with this phenomeno

Genetic Association between Polymorphisms of Interleukin-32 and Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Chinese Han Population.

BACKGROUND: Dilated cardiomyopathy is a primary myocardial disease and one of the critical causes of heart failure. It is the most common indication for heart transplantation worldwide, and most idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathies are sporadic and multifactorial. Evidence has supported that several inflammatory cytokines and immune responses are involved in its pathological process. Interleukin-32 is a proinflammatory cytokine and is elevated during the worsening cardiac function. Herein, we evaluated the correlation between interleukin-32 gene polymorphisms (rs12934561 and rs28372698) and the

Posterior corneal vesicles are not associated with the genetic variants that cause posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy.

PURPOSE: Posterior corneal vesicles (PCVs) have clinical features that are similar to posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy (PPCD). To help determine whether there is a shared genetic basis, we screened 38 individuals with PCVs for changes in the three genes identified as causative for PPCD. METHODS: We prospectively recruited patients for this study. We examined all individuals clinically, with their first-degree relatives when available. We used a combination of Sanger and exome sequencing to screen regulatory regions of OVOL2 and GRHL2, and the entire ZEB1 coding sequence. RESULTS: The

Genetic association of IL2RA, IL17RA, IL23R, and IL31RA single nucleotide polymorphisms with alopecia areata.

The signalling of cytokine receptors plays a crucial role in regulating tolerance and immunity. Impaired immunological processes result in autoimmune inflammation that target the hair follicles, causing many hair disorders, mainly alopecia areata (AA). Therefore, polymorphisms in cytokine receptor genes are suggested to have a significant impact on the pathogenesis of AA, a disease with a multifactorial basis and uncertain etiology. In the present study, 152 AA patients of the Jordanian population were investigated for their genetic susceptibility to develop AA compared to 150 control subjects

Genetic association analysis of CLEC5A and CLEC7A gene single-nucleotide polymorphisms and Crohn's disease.

BACKGROUND: Crohn's disease (CD) is characterized by a multifactorial etiology and a significant impact of genetic traits. While NOD2 mutations represent well established risk factors of CD, the role of other genes is incompletely understood. AIM: To challenge the hypothesis that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the genes CLEC5A and CLEC7A, two members of the C-type lectin domain family of pattern recognition receptors, may be associated with CD. METHODS: SNPs in CLEC5A, CLEC7A and the known CD risk gene NOD2 were studied using real time PCR-based SNP assays. Therefore, DNA samples
