We have examined 15 children (born in 1987-1988), whose fathers liquidated the aftereffects of the accident at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and suffered from acute radiation sickness of the 1st and 2nd stages and 50 children of the control group. The obtained data showed that the number of small developmental abnormalities (stigmas of dysembryogenesis) increased as well as the chromatid aberration frequency as compared with the control group.

Strain RP23018ST was isolated from the solar panels in Gebze, Türkiye. According to the phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences, strain RP23018ST was classified as a member of the genus Pseudomonas, being most closely related to Pseudomonas cremoricolorata DSM 17059T (99.3%). Formation of a three-component urinary excretion function using the data of occupational exposure cases is described. Measurement results of plutonium inhalation from two subjects over 6000 and 2500 d are used in the derivation of this function. The three-component excretion function obtained is U(t) = 0.0008e(-0.0566(t)) + 0.00009e(-0.0042(t)) + 0.00004e(-0.00008(t)). The function is therefore proposed as a reliable basis to make an uptake assessment for operational control for mixed class of plutonium dominated by M-class chronic exposure.

The use of mathematical modelling for investigation of the efficiency of existing monitoring sites for the impact of SO(2) emissions from power stations in the state of Kuwait is described. The Industrial Source Complex Short Term (ISCST3) model is utilised to obtain the spatial and temporal variations of SO(2) over residential areas. We estimated the radiation-induced risk of leukemia in 162,684 Chernobyl accident emergency workers (EWs) using the data of the Russian National Medical and Dosimetric Registry (RNMDR). A system was established for the collection and verification of data in 55 cases of leukemia from 1986 to 1995. Blood samples were irradiated in vitro with alpha-rays emitted from short-lived radon decay products dissolved in the culture medium at doses between 0.03 and 41.4 mGy. The results of investigation of the harmony of physical development of children living in Gomel (the density of Cs137 territory contamination is 1-5 Ci/km2) are presented. Age and sex characteristics of body mass and body length variations, annual mass gains, the mass and length parameter and the harmony of physical development are assessed. A significant proportion of the children have manifested disharmonious and sharply disharmonious development due both to the excess or deficiency of body mass of the 1st and 2nd categories.

The prevalence and incidence rates of urogenital tuberculosis in the Ukraine in the past 10 years were studied. They tended to decrease in the first period (1988-1992) and to become stable in the second period (1993-1997), being equal to 10.71 and 1.0 per 100,000. In the past 5 years, the incidence of urogenital tuberculosis tended to increase among urban residents as compared to rural ones. These changes show a total trend in the population living in the radioactively polluted area.
