A 3D-Printed and Freely Available Device to Measure the Zebrafish Optokinetic Response Before and After Injury.

Zebrafish eyes are anatomically similar to humans and have a higher percentage of cone photoreceptors more akin to humans than most rodent models, making them a beneficial model organism for studying vision. However, zebrafish are different in that they can regenerate their optic nerve after injury, which most other animals cannot. Vision in zebrafish and many other vertebrate animals, including humans, can be accessed using the optokinetic response (OKR), which is an innate eye movement that occurs when tracking an object. Because fish cannot use an eye chart, we utilize the OKR that is prese

Experimental investigation of ultrasonic assisted coating on three-point bending behavior of 3D printed polymeric bone plates for biomedical applications.

3D printed Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) bone plates exhibit limited three-point bending strength, restricting their viability in biomedical applications. The application of polydopamine (PDM) enhances the three-point bending strength by undergoing covalent interactions with PLA molecular structure. However, the heavy nature of PDM particles leads to settling at the container base at higher coating solution concentrations. This study investigates the impact of ultrasonic-assisted coating parameters on the three-point bending strength. Utilizing Response Surface Methodology (RSM) for statistical model

An anthropomorphic 3D printed inhomogeneity thorax phantom slab for SBRT commissioning and quality assurance.

Anthropomorphic phantoms with tissue equivalency are required in radiotherapy for quality assurance of imaging and dosimetric processes used in radiotherapy treatments. Commercial phantoms are expensive and provide limited approximation to patient geometry and tissue equivalency. In this study, a 5 cm thick anthropomorphic thoracic slab phantom was designed and 3D printed using models exported from a CT dataset to demonstrate the feasibility of manufacturing anthropomorphic 3D printed phantoms onsite in a clinical radiotherapy department. The 3D printed phantom was manufactured with polylactic

Liquid-Phase Integrated 3D Printed Biological Lenses for Lamellar Corneal Substitute.

Compared to traditional biological lenses that are used to correct optical systems, such as contact lenses, vision correction surgery, and corneal and lens replacement, 3D printed biological lenses offer a customizable solutions. However, the layer-by-layer principle of 3D printing leads to a staircase effect, which cannot meet the critical requirements of surface quality during the manufacturing process of biological lens, particularly with soft materials. Here, a liquid-phase printing strategy and a surface tension-dependent (STD) post-processing method are proposed that use the surface tens

Novel disposable and portable 3D-printed electrochemical apparatus for fast and selective screening of 25E-NBOH in forensic samples.

The advent of new psychoactive substances (NPS) has caused enormous difficulty for legal control since they are rapidly commercialized, and their chemical structures are routinely altered. In this aspect, derivatives phenethylamines, such as 25E-NBOH, have received great attention in the forensic scenario. Hence, we propose portable and cost-effective (U$ 5.00) 3D-printed devices for the electrochemical screening of 25E-NBOH for the first time. The cell and all electrodes were printed using acrylonitrile butadiene styrene filament (insulating material) and conductive filament (graphite embedde

Mechanical behavior of 3D-printed PEEK and its application for personalized orbital implants with various infill patterns and densities.

This study proposed a 3D-printed PEEK with a specific design to restore the damaged orbit shape. Such printed personalized implants are greatly affected by the process parameters, wherefore the effects of the nozzle temperatures, printing speed and layer thickness on the tensile properties were investigated based on the Taguchi approach. The optimal mechanical properties, i.e., the tensile strength and Young's modulus, were found to be 54.97 MPa and 2.67 GPa, respectively. These properties were obtained by adjusting the nozzle temperature to its high level (450 °C), while the layer thickness (

Effects of Kinetic Chain Length on the Degradation of Poly(β-amino ester)-Based Networks and Use in 3D Printing by Projection Microstereolithography.

Poly(β-amino ester)-diacrylates (PBAE-dAs) are promising resins for three-dimensional (3D) printing. This study investigated the degradation of two PBAEs with different chemistries and kinetic chain lengths. PBAE-dA monomers were synthesized from benzhydrazide and poly(ethylene glycol) (A6) or butanediol (B6) diacrylate and then photopolymerized with pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-mercaptopropionate), which formed thiol-polyacrylate kinetic chains. This tetrathiol acts as a cross-linker and chain-transfer agent that controls the polyacrylate kinetic chain length. A6 networks exhibited bulk degrada
