The effects of intravenously injected 4-dimethylaminophenol and Co2EDTA on peripheral circulation, respiration, acid-base balance, and several other physiological and biochemical parameters were studied on dogs. DMAP increased the respiratory minute volume and mean arterial pressure, diminished the lactate-to-pyruvate ratio, and induced an increase in arterial oxygen pressure caused by liberation of oxygen from oxyhemoglobin during the formation of ferrihemoglobin. Case report on a patient aged 57 with periodic respiration and paroxysmal tendency to fall asleep in daytime. Between sleep and waking he had typical apnoic intervals with passing, but definite, hallucinations. The cause, in accord with the literature, is considered to have been edema of the upper respiratory tract which followed at times on irradiation of a squamous epithelium carcinoma of the roof of the nasopharynx. The psychologic and respiratory disturbances and the attacks of somnolence proved fully reversible after anti-edematous treatment.

It is reported on the results of the treatment with artificial ventilation in 20 patients with complicated myocardial infarction. As indicating sign a decreased arterial PO2 (lower than 70 Torr at an respiration of 50% O2 in the respiration air) was considered.
