A descriptive study of medical and chiropractic patients with chronic low back pain and sciatica: management by physicians (practice activities) and patients (self-management).

BACKGROUND: A practice-based study of ambulatory patients with low back pain noted a long-term outcome advantage for self-referred chiropractic (DC) patients over medical (MD) patients within a subgroup of patients with chronic low back pain and radiating pain below the knee. The frequency of self-care education by physicians in both provider cohorts coupled with current thinking on management of chronic low back pain led to an exploration and description of physicians' noncore practice activities and patients' self-management attitudes and behaviors. METHODS: A longitudinal, practice-based, …

Self-efficacy and competence gaps in health information management: A mixed-methods assessment among healthcare professionals.

BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of routine health information systems (RHIS) depends significantly on the self-efficacy and actual competence of healthcare professionals in managing health information. Despite investments in health information infrastructure, gaps between perceived abilities and actual skills continue to undermine system performance. OBJECTIVE: This study assessed self-efficacy levels and competence gaps among healthcare professionals in RHIS tasks within Cape Coast Metropolis, Ghana. METHOD: A mixed-methods cross-sectional study was conducted among 265 healthcare professional

To compare the clinical characteristics and self-management status of patients with chronic wounds across different altitudes and to identify factors associated with self-management. A cross-sectional design was used. Using convenience sampling, 113 patients with chronic wounds were recruited from the Hospital of the Tibet Autonomous Region Chengdu Office and categorized by long-term residential altitude into a high-altitude group (≥ 3000 m, n = 76) and a low-altitude group (< 3000 m, n = 37). Data were collected using a general information questionnaire and the Chronic Wound Self-Management S…

Culturally Tailored Education Interventions to Enhance Diabetes Self-Management: A Systematic Review of Randomised Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: Cultural disparities in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) care contribute to suboptimal self-management and poor glycemic outcomes among ethnic minority populations. Culturally tailored diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) interventions have emerged as a strategy to improve disease outcomes by aligning educational content with patients' beliefs, language, and traditional practices. This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness and core cultural components of culturally adapted DSMES interventions. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, E…

Emergency Nurse-Led Evidence-Based Practice Initiative: Patient Self-Management of Noncommunicable Disease in the Community.

INTRODUCTION: Emergency department visits are critical touchpoints to engage patients with noncommunicable diseases in self-management support aligned with Hong Kong health care reform and Sustainable Development Goal 3.4. This study examined the effectiveness of an emergency department-based, nurse-led health-promotion intervention to improve chronic disease self-efficacy and strengthen emergency nurses' contribution to primary health care. Acid-responsive natural amphiphile self-assembled nanoparticles with enhanced biointerface performance for tomato gray mold management.

Conventional prochloraz (Pro) formulations suffer from poor stability, inadequate leaf deposition, and short persistence. In this work, we developed GA-Pro nanoparticles via ultrasound-assisted self-assembly of glycyrrhizic acid (GA), a natural amphiphile, and Pro. The 125.3 nm spherical nanoparticles, stabilized by hydrogen bonding, electrostatic, and van der Waals interactions, exhibited acid-responsive release (84.34% at pH 3.0 over 5 days) and enhanced photostability. GA-Pro significantly improved leaf interfacial performance, reducing surface tension to 46.1 mN/m, decreasing contact angle

Self-Efficacy and Knowledge in Cardiotoxicity Management Among Pediatric Oncology Nurses: A Cross-Sectional Mediation Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cardiotoxicity is a serious adverse effect of cancer treatment in children and can be reversible or irreversible, with irreversible forms involving permanent loss of cardiac muscle cells. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine pediatric oncology nurses' self-efficacy and knowledge levels regarding the management of cancer treatment-related cardiotoxicity, to identify the sociodemographic and professional factors associated with self-efficacy, and to test whether knowledge functions as a mediator in the association between cardiotoxicity-related training and self-efficacy. The therapeutic mechanism-trajectories principle (TMTP): A framework for informational architecture in chronic disease self-management.

OBJECTIVES: Self-management interventions in chronic disease are frequently communicated as general wellness advice. Horne's Necessity-Concerns Framework showed adherence tracks perceived necessity (OR = 1.742) and ameliorated concerns (OR = 0.504); Miller found health literacy correlates more strongly with adherence for non-medication regimens (r = 0.20) than medication regimens (r = 0.09). Neither addresses the authority signals prescriptions carry and self-management advice lacks. METHODS: Discussion paper grounded in conceptual analysis, integrating Horne's NCF, Miller's health literacy w…

Comparing TCIM use and patient satisfaction in germany: impact of health self-management across migration backgrounds.

PURPOSE: Cultural background and migration experiences shape health behavior, use of traditional, complementary and integrative medicine (TCIM), and trust in physicians. This study examines how these factors interact in patients in Germany and whether health self-management modifies these relationships. The goal is to inform culturally sensitive, patient-centered care. METHODS: Between October and December 2023, 375 patients were surveyed in a monocentric primary care study using an anonymous questionnaire assessing migration background, use of TCIM, health self-management, trust in physician…

Home-Based Self-Management Multimodal Pelvic Health Programs for Urinary Incontinence in Women: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence (UI) in women is commonly managed through pelvic health rehabilitation. Home-based multimodal pelvic health programs (MMPHPs) are gaining attention as a conservative intervention combining multiple components. However, the evidence surrounding their use remains underexplored. OBJECTIVE: To map the current trial evidence (including randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies) on home-based MMPHPs for managing UI in women, and to identify their core components, including pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT), bladder training (BT), breathing exerci
